Carbonara Chicken Wrap Desa Sri Hartamas Pasta

Breadfruits Cafe @ Desa Sri Hartamas- Hmmm, Not my Cuppa Tea

First off, never heard of this cafe/fruit shop prior to this visit. Did not see it being raved about in local food magazines and some of the major food blogs. The only reason I even knew this place existed or that I intended to give it a try was because it made it into the “20 Best Cafes in Kuala Lumpur You Need to Visit Once in Your Life” at SETHLUI.com , a notable Singaporean food blog/website.

Breadfruits is located right in the middle of the busy shop lots along Desa Sri Hartamas. So yea, naturally finding a parking spot will be a problem if you visit the area at peak hours.

Anyways, this is a semi fruit shop/cafe. As in the front of it consist of somewhat a fruit shop and the back, a cafe.  Take a look for yourself.

As you would most probably have guessed, from the way the photos are takes, that I was seated at the front. Got to be honest, I did not like my view. No doubt there is an increase in these sort of ventures, with everyone being more health conscious and all. Been to several of these sort of establishments that blends a fruit shop and a cafe, and many of them equally as pleasant to the eye as it is to the stomach, but this cafe in particular just was not my cup of tea. However, I acknowledge that that was perhaps a mistake on my part, because i did later just for the sake of it, try out those sittings inside, and I must say its a lot more pleasant at the back. For many, this may not even be an issue worth bringing up – good on you, but for those of you like me, who holds some sort of importance to the surroundings as well, then take my advise and sit at the back.

While the surroundings/environment was just ‘bleh’ for me, the food was pretty decent. Yay!

Carbonara Pasta, 21 Ringgit

This dish, I like. The carbonara sauce accompanied by pasta cooked to its perfection, with tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon and greens. With a soft boil egg on the top, you mix them all up and yummmm!! You’ve got a yummy, thick and slick pasta. As you can probably derive from the image, its a wholesome and hearty meal. So, its best if you order this dish on an empty stomach to enjoy its awesomeness at its maximum potential.

Chicken Wrap, 16 Ringgit

This dish, hhmmm. I sincerely thought it would consist of pieces of chunky chicken with tomatoes, cucumber, dipped with chilly/BBQ sauce and wrapped with a pita bread. You know, the usual chicken wrap? Yea, that one, but instead I got this. So naturally you can picture my disappointment when I got what I got, which basically pieces of chicken meticulously wrapped and stuffed with some sort of spinach ‘sauce’.

My first thought was to order something else, till I realized that it cost me 16 ringgit, so it is not going anywhere other than my stomach. I tasted it and it was good, delicious in a ‘starter dish’ kind of way. If you are looking for a wholesome meal to fill your stomach up, this would not do justice. The wrap was cooked well – roasted/baked nicely, in a way that enabled the outer part of it to be crispy and the inner part of it to be moist and soft. However, I would not order this dish again. Its just a little costly for a small little thing.

Would I head there again?

No, I most probably would not. Why? Firstly, I rarely head to this part of town. Whenever I do head there, there are several other cafes  nearby that provide equally good food and ample parking spaces – like Podgy and The Banker, and The Prep Room. Its a matter of whether you like easily ready parking spots and wasting 10-15 minutes going a round the same stretch of roads while wishing/willing/praying someone will miraculously decide at that point to leave and give you his/her spot. I take the former, do not have much patience in me to opt for the second option.

Secondly, like i mentioned earlier – its just ‘bleh’. It did not provide me a feeling of wanting to return. You get what I am saying? So, nope, not heading there again.
