Jaslyn Cakes at Bangsar – Yummy Desserts (Muslim friendly)

This dessert cafe in Bangsar has been making headlines since it opened back in 2014 as one of those cafes that serves really good dessert. Just by referring to my good old friend – Google, in regards to this eatery, it is highly likely that you will come across Jaslyn’s in several of those “List of Cafes that Offers Good Desserts” list, as I did. ย So the million dollar question is – is it that good? I finally got around into attempting to answer that question last weekend.ย

Jaslyn Cakes is located within the stretch of shops opposite/facing La Bodega. Literally anyone who is familiar with Bangsar knows where La Bodega is, well, if you are not – then get Waze to guide you. Of course, parking was a problem, so I parked at the underground carpark that used to house a food court on the top, which was very convenient because it only took me about 5 minutes to walk up to the dessert cafe.

This cafe is relatively small, which does not surprise me as the rent here sure does cause a bomb. So,in terms of how big the cafe is – there is a whole lot and then there is half a lot, yea, Jaslyn is half a lot, which makes it pretty small. During peak hours, it certainly is bound to get crowded and ‘crampy’ in there. I was there around 3 pm on a Saturday, most of the tables with seats 3,4 people were taken, the ones available were 2 seaters which worked well for me, since it was just me and my sister.

Sticky Toffee Pudding, 11 ringgit

This was yummmmm! Really good. For 11 ringgit – they give you a relatively huge and compact pudding + full cream milk = ย A really good buy. Why I referred to this pudding as ‘compact’ was because that was exactly what it was – full and compact, there was no fluffiness, airiness or lightness, this was heavy, potent and compact. Literally every spoon was full and solid. There is quite a difference with or without the creamer. When you eat the pudding on its own, the sweetness will eventually get to you – that is not to say that it was just too sweet, no, that is not the case, however, due to its rather ‘compact’ nature, eventually the sweetness will get to you. With the creamer , the sweetness gets toned down and trust me when I say that it makes the ‘already’ good dish excellent. I usually do not like raisins being added into my gooey chocolate desserts but this was tolerable. Of course, if given an option, I would still opt for no raisins, however, since there is no option here, it was surprisingly not a problem for me – why? because there was only a few of it. This dessert had no raisins overpowering it, thank god ! I love this dessert very much.ย

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake, 14 ringgit

I am a fan of peanut butter. I love me some peanut butter yawww! So, naturally I would love this too. The added bonus here was that unlike many other cakes out there, this cake would be a peanut butter lover haven because the icing on the top and the one in the middle came with thick peanut butter awesomeness. Many cafes here offer peanut butter cakes, however many of those seems to have a lot more sugar and whipping cream stuff and a small ratio of peanut butter. These kind of cakes gives you only a small taste of peanut butter because what you get is a diluted version of it. This cake here at Jaslyn’s though, offers you the real deal. While it was not exactly a 100% kind of thing – it certainly was not diluted. As a peanut butter fan, I loved it. The icing was ‘peanutty’ and thick while the cake was ย the cake was ‘chocolatty’ and moist, a combination that worked very well.

Would I head there again?

Oooo yes!! I loved whatever I have tried so far and I am looking forwards to trying more. They have cakes, cookies, custards, cupcakes, pavlova, creme brule puddings. Probably would give their Red Velvet cake and Caramel cupcake a try the next time I head there.
