Encore Patisserie @ Taman Bukit Desa – Decent Desserts

In Taman Bukit Desa, few doors away from Charlie’s cafe ( Charlie’s Cafe @ Taman Bukit Desa – Good stuff. ) is Encore Patisserie, previously known as Palmier Patisserie. How did I know about this cafe? Well, I was looking through several lists of good dessert places to try in Kuala Lumpur and the thing with looking through several lists on a specific subject/topic is that several things are bound to be repeated. One of those repeated/frequently mentioned dessert cafe was Encore and since I was free this evening, I figured it would be a good time to pay them a visit.

The cafe ambiance was nice. It oozed a cozy and welcoming feel. Encore occupies the corner lot, which means they have a relatively large place to occupy and they used it well. You have 3 options in regards to seating – the inside of the cafe, the front of the cafe of the side of the cafe, as shown by the images above. So, it depends of whether you want privacy, whether you prefer indoor/outdoor seating, you fancy an air conditioned room or the nature.

As you get into the cafe, head to the counter, place your order and make payment. Then head over to a spot you like and take a seat. Food is bound to arrive within 5 minutes unless you order something that requires cooking – like fries or sandwich. Yes, they do serve things other than desserts, but not in variety though.

Pair of Scones, 5.66 ringgit

The scones were pretty good. I would not say it is one of the best out there, the ones from Kenny Hills Bakers taste better, but it is not nob at all. Not all cafes serves scones and when the urge kicks in, sometimes it gets rather difficult to acquire it. Heading all the way to Kenny Hills during peak hours is just a waste of fuel, so I am kindda glad that I can go to another spot a lot closer to me that serves pretty tasty scones. It is served warm with whipping cream and strawberry jam on the side. I liked it. Especially liked the fact that it was not DRY. Numerous time, I’ve come across scones that has been sitting on the tray the whole day, that by the time they reheat it for you and it reaches you table – it literally feels like you are eating biscuits. Encores scones were soft and fluffy, yay! Add in the jam and whipped cream – yummy!

Chicken & Mushroom Pie, 9.43 ringgit

This was another pretty good dish. It looked simple and it was kindda small, lol but it tasted nice. The pie pastry was not overly thick and brittle – thank god, the filling was plenty, lots of chicken pieces and mushrooms. I liked it too. Would certainly give this another go the next time.

Mille Feuille, 8.49 ringgit

Okay, this was one of their popular dishes, so I decided to give it a go. However – I hate custard. Have not touched a custard tart/pie or anything else involving custard for the past 6 years. Why? Bad experience. I walked into one of my neighborhood bakeries and got myself an egg custard tart, take away. By the time I went back home , I just wanted to sink my teeth into the tart because it looked mouth wateringly delicious. I did, but it tasted like crap. The eggs were not cooked well,  was mostly raw and imagine it being mixed with the strong taste of custard. Grossss! The taste was soo overwhelmingly overpowering that I scarred. Hence, the 6 years of going without it.  Now, back to the current dish – I hated it. It was overpowering. I think I am gonna forego custard for another 6 years. However, If you are a custard lover, I am sure you would love this. If you remove the thin brown biscuit like structure from the whole equation, the rest is all custard. That thick yellowish thingy in the image above, yup – all custard. So, if u like custard, give this a go. Not my cup of tea though.

Would I head here again?

Yea. I like the ambiance this cafe offers and the neighborhood in which this cafe is located at is wonderful. I enjoyed a walk around the park once I was done at Encore. Food was pretty good. Looking forward to trying the other things they offer.
