Ampang Ampang cafe Bagel Chicken Pesto Sandwich Food Open Daily Pork Free Sandwich

28 Fireplace at Ampang – Exactly What I Needed (Pork free)

It has been a while since I last step foot in Ampang, decided today to pay that place a visit. Did some research and noticed that 28 Fireplace has been garnering positive reviews throughout the several years it has been in operation. This cafe is located just 5 minutes away from TAFT ( The Artisan Food Trail (TAFT) @ Ampang – Love it ! ) and is nestled within a row of shops. If you follow Waze, it will lead you right to it – but lemme tell you, when I was nearing the place, I kindda hoped that that row of shops was not the row of shops I thought it was, because I have passed that row of shops before and it was mostly  made up of motocycle & car repair shops and appliances shops. I dislike eating at places that are surrounded with these kind of shops because it usually is messy and just yuck. Soon enough, I realized that Waze is saying that I gotta pass this row of shops, turn left and head on to the back – and I was flabbergasted, for reals yawww. When I see the row of shops at the front, which by the way is right beside a rather busy road – I cringe, cause it is soooo not the kind of place I would hang out at and then when I saw the back – which I did not know existed , I was like ” Woa, holy shit! I like it, totally a place I can hang out at.” There is only about 10 shops on this row, almost all of them are eateries.

Guess who also occupies one spot here – La Risata yawww. I’ve only been to the one in Damansara and I loved the food there. I think it is their Modus Operandi to open shop at a higher end but understated neighbourhood, A distinguish and elegant neighborhood that is home to a row or two of shops and La Risata parks themselves right in the middle of it all and swim in its glory. Same this here in Ampang. 28 Fireplace is located within a row of shops that is surrounded by a neighborhood, a fancy one at that. This neighborhood which is also home to several embassies, oozes old school charm and elegance. Loved it. Right next to 28 Fireplace is The Daily Grind, who are notable for the gourmet burgers they offer. There is a bar few doors away and a Mexican restaurant. Good food, good vibes, good ambiance, lovely neighborhood and friendly people – what more do you need? Awesomeness Overload! I am definitely coming back. Okay, now back to 28 Fireplace and my review.

The inside of the cafe was pretty vibrant and cozy. There were all sorts of decorations going on around the eatery – a christmas tree,  empty picture frames, old designer tins and plaques, which were both charming and fascinating. Another intriguing fact would but the existences of a fireplace imitation right in the middle of the cafe, which answers the “Firehouse” in its name. As for the 28, it is because the shop is operating in lot number 28. Now we know why the cafe is named 28 Fireplace, lol.

I was impressed. The dish arrived within 5 minutes and it tasted soooooo delicious.  I am sure by now, my liking for anything pesto is blatantly obvious, which was why I wanted to give this sandwich a go. I loved it. The dish came with mildly toasted sourdough bread + roasted herb chicken + homemade pesto sauce + spinach. Can you see the amount of chicken that came with the sandwich? It sure was in generous portion, with thick pesto sauce. Soo yummy, the perfect blend of crunchy and creamy. A side of salad accompanied this dish and in that they were generous too – spinach, salad greens and sprouts. This healthy goodies occupied at least half the plate, once you mixed it all up. Loved it and I would certainly order it again.

Morning Bagel, 25 ringgit

This was another yummy dish. I have not come across many cafes that utilizes bagels as a means of making a sandwich sort of dish and after all, it came recommended – so, I thought why not and this is how I ended up giving the Morning Bagel a try. This dish consisted of a poppy seed bagel + sunny side up egg + grilled pineapples + smoked turkey ham + caramelized onions + cheddar cheese. Man, this was soooo good, I kid you not! The whole combination worked and it offered me a burst of flavors that only left me wanting and grasping for more. There was sweetness from the pineapple and caramelized onions, creaminess from the sunny side egg and cheese and the meaty spiciness from the turkey ham. Another one worth ordering again.

Would I head here again?

Heck yeah!
