So, I realized that I have not covered much on Korean Fried Chicken. Hmmm okay, that was a lie. I did not realize it, my friend did and how did she bring it up to my attention? Lecturing. Yes, she lectured me for a good 10 minutes on what a loser I was for not covering much on Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) and also for the fact that I still have not joined the KFC bandwagon. So, to ease my ears away from getting a earful of lecture again – here I am giving KFC a try, again. Decided on Chicken Up this time (previous attempts were at Doma and Table & Apron). Why? Because they seem to be a regular on all KFC KL related lists online, figured they must be good, hence – totally worth giving a try.
Getting yourself a parking spot right in front of near Chicken Up, would be a challenge – it is almost always occupied. However, worry not. SS 15 Courtyard is located right opposite this eatery and it has ample parking spots for a mere 2 ringgit an hour. So, head on there, park and walk over to Chicken Up.
Yang Yum Up (Half), 28 ringgit
Here, you get 4 large pieces of chicken, soaked in sweet sauce. I like sweet sauce, the sweet and spicy kind – so, naturally, I would like this. It looks small and little but trust me, do not let its size full you. Each piece is meaty and soaked in thick sauce and it fills you up after 2 pieces. I over ordered. Since I was there with my sibling, both of us thought just 2 pieces each between us would not be enough, so we added some fries into the mix but we ended up having to ‘take away’ the fries because the 2 pieces of chicken was more that filling.
Bulgogi Fries, 26 ringgit
This was one of their popular/best selling dishes. It comprises of large fries + onions + cheese sauce + beef meat. I was a bit reluctant when I noticed that it came with beef. I was hoping the beef tasted more like beef burger patty rather than the slices of beef that usually leaves an unappealing lingering aftertaste and I am happy to say the beef here tasted more like shredded beef patties. Yay! It was delicious and very filling. I was literally XXL size of usual fries. It is best to eat this if you are hungry, on empty stomach or if you are with a bunch of friends cause after 2 pieces of chicken between us, we could only afford to eat a couple of fries before our stomach explodes. Having to pack it and taking back home – that kindda makes it soggy and it takes away the yummyness that accompanied it when it first arrived at the table. It is best eaten fresh off the stove.
Would I head here again?
Yes, I am in the area, why not.
