Le Bistro 33 @ USJ Taipan – Good, tasty food. Surprisingly.

Okay, so before I get into the other details – you are most probably wondering what I say “Surprisingly” in my heading. Well, I am sure you would agree that first impressions are almost everything. When you head to an eatery, your first impression is mostly derived from the cafe surroundings before you even start with customer service and menu variety and so on. Lets just say the bistro looks a lil run down. If you are an avid fan of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, as I am, you would take notice of these sort of details and you would understand where I am coming from, lol. This and plus the fact that there was no other patrons besides me in this French bistro – it is rather natural for your thoughts to head the negative way. Guess what though – surprise.. surprise ! Everything else was great – the food, customer service and etc. Yay!

Customer service was good. As soon as I sat down, I was immediately attended to – given the menu and placed my order. This would totally be a restaurant that you can come by if you are flying solo? As soon as the order was taken, the waiter headed to the back and did not linger much at the front. So, you literally have the whole place to yourself and with some sort of privacy. I liked that – you can get some work done, read a book or meddle with your phone without having to worry about distraction.

From the menu, you can sort of gather that the bistro accommodates bigger groups and caters to families? Yea, when I asked the waiter regarding the peak hours here, he aaid that they had loads of people coming in at night – which made sense, considering the neighborhood they were located in with plenty of homes nearby and families tend to come in after working hours, which coincided with what the waiter said. Thank god thought that the menu also accomodated individulas like me who were flying solo. Yay!

This was really good! I loved it. Yummmm. It basically consisted of toast + cucumber slices + cream cheese + smoked salmon + salad. It may look simple, as simple as taking a few ingredients and layering it all together but man, this tasted good. Simple yet delicious and filling. The salmon tasted fresh and the cream cheese worked wonders in provided the right amount of flavoring to compliment both the salmon and the bread.

If you are flying solo, intend to fill your stomach and fancy yourself something of the Big Breakfast variety, then this could be the one to fit the bill. You get a slice of bread + scrambled egg + red beans + 2 slices of ham + 2 chicke sausage + baked potatoes + salad. The sausages were da bomb. Totally tasted like one of those German specialty sausages. It was meaty, not too chewy and the bits of mushrooms aided in the crunchyness. Scrambled eggs had bits of cheese in them, nothing overwhelming, just enough to elevate the overall taste of the egg. Ham slices were crispy, exactly how I liked them. Overall, loved the dish. Yummy indeed.

Would I head here again?

Maybe. I am almost never in the area. If i am though, why not.
