Okay guys, if you like discovering hidden cafes with good, yummy food – here is one for you. Located only 5 – 10 minutes away from Damansara Uptown, in a relatively quiet neighbourhood, it is easy for your eyes to miss this cafe, at first glance. Why? – because this cafe has no sign board on the outside. No huge signs screaming ” Battery Acid Club (BAC) is here”.
It was intended though, by the folks of BAC – I did ask and they did say that their intention is to be a neighborhood cafe. They know most if not all their regular customers, built a rapport with them throughout the few years they are in operation. So, we being the newbies, got some attention, lol. They were interested to know how we knew of them, since they do not even have a sign board. I told them the truth – via Social Media.
And oooooo, one more thing. This is also one of the most clean/sterile cafe I’ve come across locally, lol. No joke. It is soooooooo clean. Wall, floor, table, chairs – everything, clean.
We relied solely on Waze and once we reached the row of shops, for a second there – we were disappointed because we thought BAC has closed shop or/and moved elsewhere …… and then we saw it. From the outside, it looked like a fancy self service laundy? The kind with half of the shop being filled with cloths washers and dry cleaning services and the other half is taken up by a mini cafe? For the patrons of the laundry service to sit and have a cuppa while waiting for their cloths to be done? Driving pass it, from the outside, that was what we thought BAC was – a half laundrette and half cafe. I saw cloths hanging on one side of it and tables and chairs on the other side.
So yea, as you can see from the images above, a small part of the front of this cafe is taken up by some cloths on display – vintage looking, elegant yet funky cloths for both males and females. The rest of the cafe is tables and chairs. A small part of the back of BAC is a cool and slick looking barbershop. It goes by appoinment only, no walk ins. So, if you guys are interested – do go online to book your slot at mentega.co
The guys at BAC focuses on quality rather than quantity. So if you are expecting to be WOW- ed by the variety of items on their menu, you will be dissapointed. They are a neighborhood cafe, who’s primary interest is to provide the neighborhood with good food. Making waves on social media and gaining the attention of loads of people outside their immediate neighborhood does not seem like their main goal. They have limited menu – some bread, some pastas and desserts – but whatever they did have was certainly delicious. Worth a try.
Hawaiian Grilled Cheese Panini, 16 ringgit
This was yummy! Loved it. The sandwich basically comprised of smoked chicken slices + caramalized grilled pineapples + mozzarella cheese + green pepper. The cheese, oooo man – same effect you get when you eat a pizza slice. Yum yum. The caramelized pineapples gave the whole sandwich a kick of sweeteness. The chicken slices were thin but flavorful. Yum. The whole sandwich tasted awesome.
Tomato Pesto Pasta, 18 ringgit + Shrimps, 6 ringgit
It does not matter of you dislike tomato, do give this dish a try. A MUST try. It was utterly delicious. If you dislike tomato, worry not. You wont be able to see/taste much of it. Push it aside, for all I care but do give this a try. Also, the paata by itself does not come with shrimps but add on 6 ringgit and do get those shrimps. It was fresh and well cooked, totally da bomb. Loved the flavors the pasta offered, not too spicy, a little crunchyness scattered here and there. Yum yum.
Gula Melaka Banana, 13.90 ringgit
Decided to take away a slice of cake. Their most popular cake is their Cendol cake , which includes a combination of cendol, sago gula Melaka and etc. but since it would take me about 30 minutes to get close to a fridge once I leave, they highly recommended that I purchase something else as it is highly likely that the Cendol cake will melt.
So, ordered the Gula Melaka Banana cake instead. Yumm !! The top part waa crunchy caramalized gula Melaka ans followed by banan cake with slices of banana in between the cake. It was lovely. Really good. Not too sweet but nevertheless delicious.
Would I head here again?
Oo yes I would. Loved my experience here. Worth a second visit.
