We have been putting off going here long enough, since it is located all the way in Ampang, we somehow always got diverted elsewhere, lol. Today though, we felt like having some Ayam Percik and the whole works, so MaxandCarl would be the perfect stop.
Upon arriving, we noticed a few things. Firstly, let’s just say that it is relatively easy to identify and pick out this eatery from the others. It is located within a small business area with plenty of restaurants everywhere. However, MaxandCarl is different in a sense whereby while almost everything else has the ‘mamak’ style restaurant presence , this eatery looks relatively modern with a semi cafe-like concept.
Second thing was the Menu. Lots of items on the menu was ‘Dibatalkan’, cancelled. Of course, curiosity got the best of me and I ended up asking them why and was told that their original chef, the same one that also created the Menu, quit and that they are waiting on a replacement. For an eatery that is just 7 months old – that must suck. Can’t fault them though – shit happens.
Thank god their signature/popular dishes are available or else, I would have been really disappointed. Anyways, upon tasting the food though, I felt a little sad for them. Why? because the food I tasted was awesome, delicious. It would be a shame if things do not work out for MaxandCarl.
Nasi Kerabu Ayam Bakar, 13.90 Ringgit
Man, this was good. You get some blue-colored rice with chicken floss on the top + a meaty chicken thigh with yummy sauce (this sauce tasted a lil bit like BBQ sauce, just a lil bit) + pickled vegetables + yummy gravy + chili paste + fish crackers. It sure was delicious. I fell in love with the chicken and whatever magical sauce it was coated in, lol. The chicken with the rice and chicken floss was utterly delicious that I just couldn’t stop till it’s down to the bone. Literally, no meat left. Mixing it all up with the pickled vegetables, chili paste and gravy allowed a burst of flavors – sweet, spicy, hot. Loved it.
Nasi Kukus Ayam Percik, 12.90 ringgit
The chicken looks like a scorpion, no? Lol. That was my first thought. Anyways, This dish was pretty simple. What you’d get is white rice + chicken thigh with percik sauce + chili paste + cucumber + gravy. This too was delicious. Again, the chicken was da bomb, meaty and crunchy with thick, spicy, flavorful. Having all that with some rice and chilli – da bomb. Loved it.
Would I head here again?
If this was located anywhere near where I am, then I would probably pay MaxandCarl more visits that I actually would. Due to the fact that it is located all the way in Ampang, yea, I would head here again, when it’s possible.
