Piu Piu Piu Cafe at The Zhongshan Building, Kampung Attap KL – Something different?

This evening, when it was all rainy, it got my tummy rumbling and hungry for some coffee and dessert. Since this does not require an extensive menu like it should if I were to have a main meal instead – get it? Yea, so I decided to give PiuPiuPiu a try, they have a small menu, with the usual cafe offerings.Β

PiuPiuPiu is located in The Zhongshan Building. There isnt an obvious signage that screams PIUPIUPIU IS HERE, so keep a lookout for an extension on the wall that list all the corporations/business and there will be a stairway up – head onto that stairway and head to the Second Floor and that is where it is located.

That whole floor and maybe that side of the building is sort of an artistic place. it is home to several independent artistic business/individuals and PiuPiuPIu is kind of like their common area/pantry. So basically this side of the building is home to several artsy businesses and PiuPiuPiu is their kitchen? Get it?

So yea, the images above is several of the things you would see while on your way up to PiuPiuPiu. It was pretty fascinating, felt like you are in a art design kindda co working space and the fact that you are able to use thier ‘pantry’, makes you feel like you are one of them, just one of the guys.Β

Chocolate Matcha Brownie, 13 ringgit

The brownie was nice. I usual stay clear of anything matcha related because the taste is most often slightly overpowering, sort of an acquired taste. Here however, with some matcha powder sprinkled on the top, it was not overpowering at all. It was pretty good. Not too sweet, the sprinkled matcha powder elevated the taste of the brownie by providing a tinge of bitterness that complemented the chocolate flavor well. The fact that it is also flourless, the texture of the brownie was different but thoroughly satisfying. Loved it.

The brownie was awesome but man, the time it took to reach my table – 20 long minutes lol. I managed to finish my drink (slowly) and wait on somemore and when I couldn’t wait no more, I went to the counter to remind them about my brownies. The guy said that they were in the midst of prep but come on, it isnt like they were making the cake from scratch. Nope, the cake was right there on display on the counter. All they needed to do was sprinkle some matcha powder and heat it up lol. When the cake arrived – it wasn’t hot. I know u guys are most probably going ” just 20 minutes – no bog deal” but trust me, at PiuPiuPiu – you will feel it.

I also went there thinking it might be one of those eateries similar to cafes that you could sit down at a quiet corner, with you laptop and spend a couple of hours there finishing up work. Cant say this is a place that allows you to do that comfortable. The chairs there aren’t meant for one to sit there for long. It is pretty low and/or the kind that sinks your rear end in.Β  As a ‘pantry/ common kitchen/ mini eatery’ aiming to cater the peeps at the co working space, this would be great, for a cafe that allows you that much needed time alone to wind down and relax, get some work done – not really. It is an experience though. Different from most cafes. If you are there for a short time, wanting to experience something a little different from the usual, do consider giving PiuPiuPiu a try. Maybe read trough some of the books there while you are at it.

Would I head here again?

Nope. Experiencing it once was enough. A good experience nonetheless, something different.
