I paid Chaplang Cafe a visit today and I had an awesome experience. Loved the ambiance,it has its own charm – the ol school feel it exudes and the food was delicious.
and the Menu ….
Chicken Rendang Spaghetti, 16 ringgit
I asked them what were their most popular dishes and I was recommended this dish, in addition to their chicken chop – which I also tried. This dish right here was truly the bomb. You literally can taste the rendang flavor every mouthful you’d have. I initially thought that with the rendang, the spaghetti would most probably be somewhat wet? but that was not the case here, the spaghetti here was more of the dryer version. So, imagine dry spaghetti with plenty of rendang paste and tender chicken bits – da bomb! It was really delicious. Totally worth giving it a try.
Grilled Chicken Chop, 17 ringgit
This was another recommended dish. However, while the rendang spaghetti had a “wow” effect, the chicken chop did not. That is not to say that it isnt nice, it was tasty but not in a “out of this world” way. The chicken chop was of the usual black pepper flavor and it was tender, meaty. It was the gravy that came on the side that was the star of the dish. That gravy elevated the dish, from something usual, to something tasty. If it was absent, the chicken chop most probably would be pretty ordinary. Besides the chicken and the gravy, the dish also came with a side of coleslaw and fries.
Apple Crumble tart, 9 ringgit
The apple crumble was simple yet delicious. There was plenty of apple bits and pieces at the bottom. Crunchy biscuit bits on the top with an almost solid custard like filling in the middle. It is not overly sweet, yay! Just enough sweetness to be yummy.
Would I head here again?
Ooooo yes, I certainly will. Totally worth it.
