Asian Fusion Coffee desserts Food Non Halal Western

Mechanic Cafe @ Balakong, Cheras – Not bad.

I paid a visit to this 2 month old cafe today. Let me tell you this first – from where I was (Bangsar), heading to this cafe sure was a distance – you’d need to go past Mines and drive on till you reach AEON Cheras Selatan and then, and only then you’d be 5 minutes away from this cafe. So, if you are from where I was, make sure you’d have some time to spare because trust me – One Hour Ain’t Enough.

Okay… Moving on …

The cafe is located in a pretty new business area – Dataran Perniagaan Cheras. Do expect to see plenty of shop lots spread out and within one of those lots, this cafe occupies the first floor.

They’ve got a pretty huge space to work with, spacious, with white+grey+black theme going on. They have the high table in one corner, sofa sets on the other and the usual table & chair seating spread all around. It had a bright and cheery vibe, welcoming.

Their Menu is rather small. This is perhaps because they are still new? Not that it mattered much. You’d still have a variety to choose from.

Carbonara: Linguine, 16 ringgit

This was delicious! Every mouthful was creamy and gooey. If you fancy yourself a plate of rice, decadent noodles – this should totally do it for you. They had generous amount of  chicken sausage scattered everywhere with some tomatoes, which only made it all the more delicious. Yum!

Chicken Chop, 20 ringgit

This was one of their popular dishes and it was delicious. It came with 2 types of sauce/gravy – mushroom or tomato sauce, I opted for the tomato. To be truthful – I did not fancy both but somehow I thought the tomato sauce will be the lesser of two evils, lol. When I actually got around to tasting it though, I was pleasantly surprise. There was not the overwhelming weird-ish taste you’d come to expect from tomatoes, nope, what you would get here is a thick, sweetish creamy sauce that complements the chicken chop pretty well. The consistency was similar to butter sauce? It was delicious. The boneless chicken was crispy and chewy. Under the chicken, you would have a bed of mashed potatoes with a salad on the side. A delicious dish overall.

Would I head here again?

Most probably not. I am not from the area and when I do visit, it most like a once in a year kindda thing. The food, service and ambiance was awesome, just too bad they are far away.
