Chinese/Taiwanese Noodles Old Klang Road Pearl Shopping Gallery Shanghainese

Paradise Dynasty at Pearl Shopping Gallery, Old Kland Road – Oooo my, Xiao Long Bao :)

Ever since we paid a visit to Go Noodle House, we have taken a liking to Pearl Shopping Gallery. So, it is no surprise that we returned 3 weeks later, this time to give Paradise Dynasty a go.ย

Paradise Dynasty as you guys most probably already know – is known for their Xiao Long Bao. I’ve seen pictures here and there of their colorful offering but I never got around to giving it a try, until today ๐Ÿ™‚

Before I start talking about the food, lets cover the interior/ambiance. As you can see, just like the other outlets, they aย  lil on the fancier side, what we people would refer to as ‘sikit atas’. However, while the place looks fancier than the usual, the price of their food though, is pretty affordable. At least based on what I ordered, it seems like 20-25 ringgit per head? It’s the same amount I usually spend at a cafe.

Service was very efficient. They were quick to take the order and quick to deliver/serve.ย  At the point of my visit, the feel was serious, pretty quiet, not much chatter, talking was in a hush-hush manner. I guess, everyone was just too busy enjoying their food. I mean, if you do not fancy ‘Shanghainese’ cuisine, you would not have taken time to visit this eatery, right?ย

The colorful xiao long baos certainly piqued my interest.I know I should have taken pictures of the soupy gravy + meat in the baos but I simply could not. There is a certain technique to eat it, right? Tear a bit of the surface, make sure it oozes out and then drink the gravy. Next, eat the meat and the bao? Yea, well, I did not have the patience to eat in such a lengthy manner. I simply took those baos, one at a time and plopped the whole thing into my mouth.ย

It was delicious, the one I fancied most was Szechuan, the red/maroonish bao. The soupy gravy was spicy and packed with plenty of heat from chilies. I also liked the yellow bao, that one had cheese in it. With the cheese, the soupy gravy was thicker than the ones in the other baos. The thicker consistency + the taste of cheese + the pork meat = yum!ย

La Mian with Pork Dumpling in Hot Chili Vinaigrette, 20.90 ringgit

When this dish first arrived at my table, my first thought was “its looks little, would it be enough to satisfy my hungry stomach?” So, did it? Yessss, it did. Just having the 4 pork dumpling itself, I was already halfway full. Those things came in generous sizes, packed with meat. However, if you are not a fan of Szechuan pepper, you may not like this dish because trust me – this dish comes packed with it. I had not issue with it, in fact – I loved the extra kicked it gave me, I slurped it all up until the bowl was empty. Burp!

Would I head here again?

Hmmm, while I liked the food, lets just say it takes some getting use to when it comes to Shanghainese/Cantonese cuisine ๐Ÿ™‚ You either like it or your dont. While I am okay with it, I prefer the usual ‘non-Shanghainese’ Chinese food I indulge in regularly.ย

So, I guess you wont be seeing me paying a visit here anytime soon ๐Ÿ™‚
