Chicken Crisp Baby Sotong Green Curry Kangkung Belacan Petaling Jaya Red Ruby Thai

Khuntai Village Restaurant @ Bukit Gasing – Our favorite Thai eatery in the area (Pork Free)

Our team has several June babies in it and since all of them share a common interest/liking  towards Khuntai – we decided to have a get-together here. It is also an ideal eatery to break fast/ ‘buka puasa’, so our Muslim friends could readily join us. Yay!

Khuntai is located in Bukit Gasing. Know where Acha Curry house is, right? Yup, turn into that row of shops and drive down the road. You would see Devis Corner, Heros Mini Mart on your left and a large field/’padang’ on your right. Park your car on the field – it sort of works as an open car park and look around – you would see Khuntai.

Air conditioned area

Khuntai occupies 3 shop lots. There is the outer area where you can enjoy the natural air. Plenty of fan all around to make sure  the temperature is cool. Most people fancy sitting out – I guess it is appealing sitting and being part of the crowd, lots of families were around, friends catching up, the ‘buka puasa’ crowd. It was packed outside but we loved every bit of it. If you are not a fan of the crowd and potential stuffiness – there is an air conditioned area readily available, away from the crowd.

The eatery was sooooo busy that getting one of them to come over and take our order was a feat in itself, lol. Just be patient and continue attempting to get their attention. I know you guys are most probably thinking – if the order goes in late, imagine when the food was going to arrive? The place was full, it was going to take forever. Nope – worry not. That is not the case here. All you have to do is make sure you get your orders in, food will arrive pretty fast despite it being fullhouse.

Ooooo man, those Thai Crisp Baby Sotong is da bomb! Every single time we pay Khuntai a visit – this is one dish we order again and again. Every single time, it taste as good as it did the first time. Those yummy baby sotongs are caramelized, it think. It was equally spicy and sweet. Chewy and tasty. I certainly will order this dish again.

The Thai Green Curry here is thicker than the ones you would ind at most other eateries. I like my gravies thick, so I loved this one here. There were the usual long beans and brinjal… and also celery. I have not tasted much celery in gravy before but it somehow managed to taste good. I guess with some of the green curry retained in the celery itself, it did not taste as a celery did. There were plenty of meaty, chicken pieces to make this a satisfying green curry dish.

The omelette was yummy with bits of shrimps scattered all over. The kangkung belacan tasted as delicious as it should. It was the first dish to arrive and by the time the other dishes arrived – we have almost completely cleared the plate. Yummy.

The Red Ruby was a perfect dessert to end my time here. It tasted awesome and one thing I like about this particular eatery is that they are pretty generous with their portions. You would get plenty of fillings. There were the rubies, slices of jack fruits, sweet potato pieces, jelly and etc. Yum.

Would I head here again?

Yessssss, I totally would.
