IndoBowl @ Lakefield, Sg. Besi – Indomie and more (Pork Free)

Since we had time on our hands today, we decided to pay this eatery a visit. They have 2 branches – one in Subang Jaya and the other in Sungai Besi, we opted to go to the latter simply because it was their first branch, having been around for 3 years. To me personally, that did not matter much,  I was just curious to check out what is deemed ‘the first Indo Mee restaurant’ in the nation. Well, almost every ‘mamak’ I know uses Indomie but I guess the differences here is that you’d get options to choose from rather than just the usual one  ‘maggi goreng’ dish at ‘mamak’.

*** Okay, so before I get into the food, I do want to emphasize on the fact that this Indonesian eatery is not the fancy kind, it is more of a nicer/modern version of an Indonesian ‘Mamak’ , the kind you do not mind hanging out at a few times a week if you live/work nearby – get what I mean? So, do head here with realistic expectations, yea? Do not expect a fancy setting or fancy food display or excellence in all aspects just because they are the first Indomie cafe.

This was their Set Lunch. I must say, the overall portion sure was generous for just 13 ringgit. You would get a bowl with Indomie, an egg, sambal, cucumber + a chicken fillet + 2 chicken satays with bean sprouts. The noodles were delicious, a lil spicy from the sambal but nothing too overwhelming. Definitely a better version of what I cook at home, lol. The chicken, Ayam Madura was a pretty big piece with a sweetish, spicy-ish flavoring to is + fried onions for garnish. I liked the chicken, lets just say I was glad it came in a large piece – the more, the merrier, I was a happy kid.  Then, to finish it off, I ate the chicken satay. It was basically basic spiced version of chicken on skewers, not the usual ones you’d get here, the kind with sweet glazed all over it. Something simple, yet different. Overall, for just 13 ringgit, this set lunch sure did go beyond my expectations.

Nasi Goreng Ayam Belado, 12 ringgit

This was delicious too. The  dish consisted of fried rice + grilled chicken chop + egg + prawn cracker + cucumber + pickled vegetable + sambal. The fried rice was simple, yet yummy. Not too spicy but with plenty of flavor. If it did not carry as much heat as you need, add in the chili sambal and trust me – that would certainly have you covered. Again, similar to the Set Lucnh, this too came in a generous portion for just 12 ringgit. Total value for money and it tasted awesome. All in all, I had a good time here.

Would I head here again?

Would like to try the other items on the Menu, however, considering how far Lakefield is from home and the rarity of me heading here, would drop by in a few months or so 🙂
