Fried Roti Canai Indian Rice Thali Meal

Macha & Co @ Kota Damansara – Good food, burp.

We dropped by Sunway Giza today, just to do some basic grocery shopping. On our way out, we had to drive round the block, simply to escape lunch hour traffic and we saw Macha & Co. It has been a while since we last covered Indian food and so, we figured – why not give this a try. What caught our eye besides the awesome name was how it looked – a rather modern touch to it.  It kindda reminds me of  BananaBro – BananaBro @ Berjaya Times Square – Something different 🙂 . Modern, chic, spacious and clean 🙂

Of course, first and foremost, I get online and read up whatever information I can get about them. Apparently they have 5 outlets, one of them are located in 1 Utama and the other in Mid Valley. Huh. I’ve been to Mid Valley loads of times but I cant say I’ve seen Macha and Co…. It would not matter anyway because I prefer visiting lone outlets like this one as oppose to the ones at malls. The ones at malls are usually busier, which in my mind would mean there is a likelihood that the standard may be compromised? So yea, it was a good thing that I visited this particular outlet.

Anyways, I usually give it a pass whenever I discover an Indian restaurant with several outlets because based on experience, the food standard is often compromised but this one here seemed okay. So, we gave it a try.

First thing you’d see as soon as you are seated is their Menu, because it is right there on display. They offer Thali meal, Briyani, rotis  to name a few and some interesting combinations for desserts – Banana Fritters with Gula Melaka and Vanilla Ice Cream & Signature Durian Tisu Gula Melaka. Interesting, ey? If I was not already full due to the rice and roti dish I ordered, would have certainly tried those desserts. Oh well, another time perhaps.

Signature Fried Roti Canai

The Thali Set came with a drink and the drink of the day was Pandan Juice with Basil seeds, which was very nice, refreshing. The rice comes in 2 options – white or brown rice. It however is not ‘Indian’ rice. It did not make much of a difference though, still tasted as good. For the set option, refill for rice and curry is unlimited, so, eat as much as you want, lol. For those of you who are like me, who loves their gravy/curry thick, then you would enjoy the curries here. I requested for chicken curry and it sure was thick. Thick and spicy, packed with spices and flavors. Niceeeee. There were 5 sides that accompanied the rice – chicken varuval, potato, fried bittergourd, long beans and rasam. All of it tasted good, my favorite was the fried bittergourd and the chicken varuval, of course 🙂

The Signature Fried Roti Canai was yummy too. It basically was fried roti canai + chicken + gravy/curry = all cut up and mixed together. It tasted like murtabak – I truly enjoyed it, something different. I’d definitely give this dish a go again. The only downside to this dish was the actual chicken pieces, it would have been nice if they removed the bones? I literally had two chicken chuncks that were all bones, it did not provide me anything – no extra taste, no extra flavors and etc so, why have it on the plate when it doesnt add any value whatsoever. The rest of the dish is basically a lump of soft, most, chewy bits and the hard, unforgiving texture of the bones is a contrast I can do without. More meat, please ?

Would I head back here?

Yea, I would. Food was good, nice ambiance, customer service was awesome – so, yessss, I’d return.
