Pork Skin Curry Mee

Ah Yee Curry Mee @ Kepong – Yum yum!

So, the bunch of us woke up at 5 am today, just to put that last minute, final touches for our upcoming presentation with the boss at 11 am today. We were done with preps by 6.45 am and right on time, our stomach started rumbling. We all needed to take short drive somewhere  because we were overloaded with stress and we were craving for some curry mee – Ah Yee Curry Mee in Kepong fitted the bill perfectly. Our fellow friend told us that Ah Yee has been around for decades and the curry mee here is pretty famous.  Talk about anticipation build up, ey?

After picking everyone up from all over PJ, we headed to Kepong. The slow drive to Kepong took us 40 minutes, which was a great stress reliever.

There were already quite a number of people indulging the curry mee here at 8 am and by 8.30, it started picking up, a continuous flow of people.

What I liked about Ah Yee was that while curry mee was the main attraction. they also serve Chee Chong Fun here and you are able to pick up the ingredients from the chee chong fun option – the fried siu kao, brinjal, fishballs and etc and incorporate it into your curry mee.

It was yummy! The broth was spicy and milky but not overwhelmingly thick to an extent that it fills you up quick. I did enjoy sipping on that broth, slurp slurp slurp!  The noodles, I opted for Mee, mee hoon mix, which was the perfect combination here. There were plenty of chicken slices and green beans. If you fancy ‘kerang’, cockles – go for it, I decided to go without it. The fried dumplings, brinjals were awesome. Leaving them to soak for a bit in the broth provided it with an amazing flavor, all wet and dense, flavorful on the outside and chewy on the inside, lovely. The dish came with a generous amount of pork skin, it sure was soft and succulent. Overall, I enjoyed this dish.

Would I head back here?

If I am in Kepong or fancy taking another drive – then yes, I would head back to Ah Yee. However, if I wanted something near, I still prefer the curry me at Kampar Cafe – Kampar Cafe @ Seapark, PJ – One of the best Curry Mee I’ve tasted in a long time.. So yea.
