We visited this a week old cafe today. As mentioned numerous times in previous postings, I have a liking towards this specific part of Section 17, which basically encompasses Happy Mansion and the business square next to it. There is just something special about the ol’ school, laid back feel this area exudes, that keeps me coming back for more.
Cafe Beside You is located in the same area where cafes like Tujoh and Catcher in the Rye is located and is lead by the same team that brought us Good Blue Men – Good Blue Men @ Seksyen 17 – Yum Yum Yum.
Occupying a corner lot, with glass panels mostly taking over 2 sides, the cafe sure had a bright feel to it. I like the idea of being able to look out, watch cars and people go by, it sure does make for a good place to pass time.
Orders are made by the counter, as well as payments. Customer service was good, they were helpful and friendly.
Salted Caramel Crepe Cake, 12 ringgit + Unagi and Cucumber Rice Bowl, 13 ringgit + Roast Chicken (Add On), 6 ringgit + Roast Chicken on Flat Ramyeon, 13 ringgit
We started of with this cake. We were really hungry, the stomach grumbly kind … yea, we were kindda desperate, lol and the fastest dish we were able to sink our teeth into would be the dessert. The cake was yummy – thick and creamy, not overwhelmingly sweet. It was a good starter dish, especially since I was sharing it with a friend, it was not filling, plenty of space left to accommodate some rice and noodles.
The Unagi and Cucumber was delicious. However, do you notice the size of the Unagi? Way too small. There was quite a bit of rice in the bowl and after only 6 spoons, the Unagi was gone. Why laaaaa? Why? I want a bigger piece, please? The unagi + poached egg + rice + cucumber combo was very good. The distinct taste of the unagi with the soggy, moist, sticky combination of the egg and rice was something I enjoyed a whole lot but even before I hit the ‘satisfied’ mode, the Unagi is gone. Howwwlaa like that?? That is why I had to order roast chicken as add on. There were still quite a bit of rice left and it needed some meat – the chicken was a good addition. It certainly dont compare to the Unagi but it makes a good substitute.
Between the rice bowl and the noodles, I personally fancied the noodles. There is something about the Roast Chicken on Flat Ramyeon. I especially liked how the gravy tasted, a mix of BBQ sauce + sweet chilli sauce. It was funky. The noodles + roast chicken + poached egg + mushroom was an awesome combination but the thing that truly gels it all together is that sweet, thick gravy. Oooo man, very nice. Certainly a dish I’d go for again.
Would I head back here?
Uhhuh, I would. It is conveniently located in an area I like, barely 15 minutes away from me, with yummy food. I’d come back soon.
