When it comes to Mont Kiara, Vista Kiara Shoppe is fast becoming the place I like to ‘lepak’ at. It is relatively quiet, parking is easy and it makes for an awesome place to chill, get that much needed lone time for yourself? Yea that and the fact that it also houses one of my favorite cafes in the area – Kopenhagen Coffee. So, naturally from time to time – I’d drop by, to get some work done while sipping on a good cuppa coffee.
I was all for coffee until I saw Kiara Cakes. I went online to check their ratings and so far its all been good. They are relatively new, a few months old but I’ve read nothing but good things about them. So, why not, ey? I forgot about coffee and instead decided to head in and indulge in what could potentially be a very good dessert.
It was scorching hot outside and seeking refuge in this cool, cozy dessert shop was pretty gratifying. Ooooo and the cakes – they offer the cool version and the ones in room temperature as well as a selection of pastries, I couldn’t decide on what to go for, everything looked good.
Lavender Chocolate Cake with Earl Grey Buttercream, 14.90 ringgit
This was one of their popular options when it comes to ‘cool/cold’ cakes. At first glance, the first thing that came to mind was how pretty it looked. It had a beautiful purple pastle hue that was rather pleasing to the eye. Niceee.
Anyways, when I decided to give this particular cake a go, I was not expecting all the flavors – lavender, chocolate and earl grey to be evident. In a lot of cases, you’d be able to taste some of the flavors but not every single one. So, I kindda went along with that thought pattern but I sure was surprised. First mouth in, I tasted lavender and chocolate and then, while you are biting into it and savoring, the distinct taste of earl grey makes its appearance. I liked it. I especially liked it even more after it has been in room temperature for a while – the buttercream get creamier? Yea, at this point, the Lavender and Earl Grey combination was more prominent. It was da bomb. Having it with the thick, moist chocolate cake was heaven.
Jackfruit Bundt, 13.50 ringgit
This Jackfruit cake was a surprise too. Why? because I wasn’t really expecting much, perhaps a cake with some jackfruit flavoring? I liked them jackfruit cakes but it is pretty difficult to come by good ones and I think I kindda gave up along the way, lowered my expectations. The ones served here though, yummy! Not only does it taste like a jackfruit cake, it come with a generous scatter bits of the actual fruit itself. Literally every mouth I took, there were jackfruit pieces in it. Lovely! Texture wise, compared to the Lavender cake, the Bundt was more crumbly. If you fancy a cake but perhaps something not too heavy, this cake would be a good choice.
Would I head back here?
Yes, I would. The cakes were delicious.
