Okay, this was a visit that was loooong overdue. I am not a fan of shaved ice because I am one of those who think when I intent to indulge in some desserts, might as well go all the way and sink my teeth into PROPER desserts – cakes, waffles, pancakes. Unless if it is Ice Kacang, any other form of shaved ice does not qualify as a dessert to me.Β
However, over the years, Kakigori is a dessert place my friends head to regularly. These guys are fussy and so, if they regularly visit – perhaps it is good. I am perhaps two years overdue but it was blazing hot yesterday and Kakigori popped up in mind. I was not in the mood for something heavy and shaved ice did sound like something that could cool me down. I checked out how they fare online rating wise – 470 raters with an average score of 4.3/ 5 ?? That seemed really good. Okaylah, so Kakigori it is.
Considering how hot it was outside, entering this dessert shop was a blessing. Not only is the cafe cool and well air conditioned, the interior was rather charming and inviting. I spent and additional hour there despite having finished my dessert. The only downside here is that Kakigori has NO WIFI, bummer. Other than that, it was all good.
Tiramisu, 16 ringgit & Mixed Warabimochi, 14 ringgit

For the shaved ice option – the popular ones would be the Burnt Cheese, Tiramisu and Elderberry, I opted for the Tiramisu. Loved it. On the top, you’d get creamy, mousse Tiramisu and the middle till the bottom , you’d get flavored shaved ice with cubes of gincau. When it first arrived, I was doubtful. The shaved ice part seemed significantly more than the Tiramisu Mousse but as I started digging into it and as the ice started melting – it was actually the perfect ratio. I wanted Tiramisu and this dessert delivered – minus the dense heaviness that usually accompanies the cake.Β Here, light and easy.
If you are in the mood for something light but besides the shaved ice, then do consider the Warabimochi. It comes in 14 cubes – 7 normal flavored and 7 matcha flavored, with a side of sugar syrup. If you are a Matcha fan and intent to truly enjoy its distinct flavor, then perhaps skip the syrup or drizzle just a lil bit. I am not really a matcha fan and so I kindda drowned the whole thing with the syrup which worked well because the syrup did tone down the Matcha flavor quite a bit which bode well with me. Once the Macha powder is drowned, I had no issue at all ‘hantaming’ it. This dish was awesome, chewy and tasty. Oooo, I even had a couple of cubes with the shaved it – the difference in texture and taste was fantastic.
Would I head here again?
Yes, whenever I am in the area and in need for some flavored shaved ice, why not.
