We had a loooong day today. Sometime between 3 – 3.30 pm, the bunch of us had to head to Bukit Bintang, near Publika for a meeting. We thought we would finish early but by the time we were done, we were right smack in the middle of rush hour traffic. Driving during this time of the day was pain, and so as we were nearing Times Square, we diverted and headed to Pudu instead.

I knew nothing about Restoran Ruby but apparently this eatery is known for their warm, soupy desserts. Two of my buddies were ‘tong sui’ lovers and they said the peanut paste/soup here was da bomb. Did someone say PEANUT?? Yup, don’t mind me – I am just salivating in anticipation, lol.

I must say, diverting into this part of Pudu was good. Besides its old school charm and character, it was also quiet and calm, a total contrast to the rush hour traffic we were subjected to just a few minutes prior. Yesss!

The bowl with the smiley face is the Peanut paste and the other, almond paste. What’s popular here is Peanut and Black Sesame paste. I opted to give the back sesame a miss because I thought I would over do it considering how thick the paste is but I suppose if I took a longer look at the Menu, I’d notice that I can actually get a taste of both in one bowl by going for the mix option – Cha Wu. Oh well,there is always next time.

The almond paste had the usual peculiar and distinct flavor of an almond. Some people like it, some don’t. For me, the after taste took some getting use to. Once that is handled though, it was quite appealing. Nothing beats the peanut paste though. This is da bomb. It was thick, every mouth you take, you’d be able to taste the crushed peanut . The sweetness was surprisingly mild. I’m usually used to being served the sugar laden version of this but here, the change was nice and pleasant. I loved it.

The Kacang Kuih was good too. They added a generous portion of crushed peanut filling, which I appreciated because lets be honest, most of the kuih filling these days are getting smaller in portion size, lol. Another thing I liked was the powder flour that usually comes with this specific dessert, there was little here. Normally, by the time I was done with this kuih, there would be ‘ white powder’ all over my mouth but this one here, let’s just say I could ‘hantam’ peacefully without a worry.
