Extraction @ SS 2 – Ummmmm …..

We finally visited Extraction a couple of days ago and I’m on the fence regarding my whole experience there. I do not know how to explain it but my experience here kindda fell short.

** Where exactly in SS 2 is Extraction located?? Know the row of shops that has Family Mart in it with Neway Karaoke at the end?? Yup, the row of shops at the back of this row, which faces he main road – that is the one.

We visited them for lunch and it was mostly empty. We had the whole place to ourselves and after spending a few hours in a meeting that literally fried all my brain cells, this was a much needed break and so, having the place all to ourselves was an awesome thing.

The Chicken Katsu Don was pretty good. That being said, would it be up there with March Azalea, Papasan Canteen and Zen & Co as part of my Top Picks for rice bowls? Nope, I’m afraid not.

This dish came with meaty, juicy, boneless chicken pieces that was generous in portion size. The pieces were relatively bigger in size compared to the other chicken dons I’ve come across. The rice too were generously portioned with plenty of fluffy egg bits scattered all over. One issue I had with this dish was the soy broth. This was surprisingly not generous? There was not enough to last me until the end, or midway even which meant that halfway through, the dish as a whole became a tad dry.

This dish, the presentation was beautiful. When it arrived at my table, I was wowed.  After tasting it though, I was a tad disappointed. I was served this dish twice. The first time – there were some complication and so, I had to request for a change. Perhaps this was the main reason why the second dish was not that great?? It was not so much the taste but more of the texture. Everything on the plate was chewy. The pasta was a lil hard and chewy, the prawns were chewy – minus the seaweed for garnish, everything else was chewy. Perhaps some people like it that way but I do not. I prefer a nice mix of texture. It was simply overwhelmingly chewy. The first few mouths was okay but eventually, it will hit you.  I do not know if this was how they serve their pasta or is it due to the complication of having to prepare another dish within a short period of time.

Perhaps I made a mistake in not ordering their bestsellers?? One of my friend visited this cafe last year and she said their cheese sandwich was yummy and coffee was good. Even within the rice bowl and pasta category, none of what we ordered were the recommended ones. So … best if you guys decide.

Would I head back here?

Most probably not. I rarely get into SS 2. The traffic as well as the difficulty in acquiring a spot for parking is two main reasons why I stay away. If and when I do decide to visit SS 2 for a meal, I’d give Extraction a miss. I could find similar food nearby and SS 2 is literally a food hub, too many choices and options available.
