Calamansi Sour Plum Fried Mee Hoon Lemongrass Ginger Open Daily Set Lunch Spicy Kung Po Chicken

Food Lover @ Happy Mansion, Sec. 17, PJ – Satisfyingly yummy! Me like 😊

We last visited Food Lover about 3 years ago, prior to the existence of TheFoodBunny. Even back then, we thought the food was good. Imagine the food you’d have at Strawberry Fields in PJ New Town, imagine that but better? Yea, that was what I thought of the food here years ago and fast forward 3 years later, I still think the same.

Some of my friends who have been here before do not share my sentiments. To them, FoodLover is “Okaylah”…. which leads me to believe that perhaps it depends on the dishes you order? As well as your preferences??Β  I know for a fact that their local offerings like fried noodles and fried rice are da’ bomb here. I’ve always ordered these sort of dishes here and they never once disappointed me.Β

The eatery itself is warm, cozy and unpretentious. It is located in Block A of Happy Mansion, same block as Hideaway Cafe. Unlike most of the other restaurants/ cafes here, that is mostly modern, hip and happening, FoodLover is a tad ol’ shool, simply and with ‘neighborhood’ feel.

Both dishes were delicious. The Kung Po Chicken had thick, slightly spicy and sweet black sauce with plenty of dried chili, cashews, green pepper, onions and a nice portion of tender chicken cubes. Best part was that the gravy and its content lasted till the last spoon of rice. Yesssss πŸ™‚

The Fried Mee Hoon was my favorite. The way it was cooked, it brought me back in time. The noodles had a slightly charred/burnt taste to it which only added to its appeal. Besides the noodles itself, do expect a generous portion of chicken bits, prawns, fish cakes, green pepper, taugeh, onions. This dish sure was yummy, there was nothing left on the plate by the time I was done with it.

Lemongrass Ginger, 5.50 ringgit + Calamansi Sour Plum, 5.50 ringgit

The drinks were nice. I especially enjoyed the Calamansi Sour Plum. Every now and then, whenever I can, I’d indulge in this drink. Why? Firstly because I enjoy its unique taste which is a nice blend of sourness, tangy and sweetness. Secondly, due to its health benefits – boosting the immune system and detoxifying the body. So yea, it taste good and it has health benefits – good deal, right?? However, if I were to order it during my next visit, I’d request for the ‘kurang gula’ option because it was a tad too sweet. Besides that, it was all good.

The Lemongrass Ginger was refreshing. It came with a ginger teabag and a piece of lemongrass. Refreshing it was.Β
