It so happened that we were bored out of our minds the past few days. No doubt we all had plenty of things to do, work and assignments to complete but there is only so much you can do when you aren’t in the mood, right? Yea, talk about being unproductive. We heard about this community library last year, located in the outskirts of Cheras. According to my friend, it apparently is a good place to head to if you are in need of a change of scenery and if you are hungry … even better as they also offer tasty food. I forgot about it as months passed until I recently saw it mentioned again on social media. So okaylah, lets go.
I can’t say I’ve ventured into Batu 11 prior to this and so, I did not know what to expect but at first glance, it most definitely offers a change of scenery. It had the ‘kampung’ vibe, looks and feel. There were cars driving in all direction but it somehow works here. A colorful mess it was. The people are a lot nicer and friendlier. They may not speak your language fluently but they do try and help, with a smile.
Waze will lead you to it however with lots of trees and greens around, you may miss it. So, just look for the ‘rumah papan’ in green with a dash of pink. You’d also see a ‘booth’ out on the site with an older aunty manning it – she basically makes the yummy fruit rojak here. If you enjoy the weather, there are comfortable seats outdoors otherwise, you can head indoors.
I liked the library. It is ol’ school, literally inside a ‘rumah papan’, nicely spread out. There is the area to eat and beside it is the library – book shelfs, all under one roof. It is an excellent place for kids to hang out, to keep them entertained. They are free to run and roam around. People here come and go with ease, all are welcome. There are plenty of tables – small ones and big ones, so coming in large groups wouldn’t be an issue. Unfortunately, there is no WIFI here. It didn’t matter to us though as we managed to get work done regardless. Yup, we got our mojo back, yawwwww.
Pets roams rather freely here, this is their resident cat. It isn’t afraid of humans and is friendly. If you are not a fan, do keep a lookout because if it likes you, it will climb you, lol.
Anyways, truth be told, we did not head to this library to read books and so, we cannot comment on the book spread here. No, our main intention was to relax, eat some food and that was what we did.
Menu
Fruit Rojak, 7 ringgit, + Cendol, 5 ringgit + Sago, 4 ringgit
Between the awesome ambiance, good food and even better company, I had a jolly good time here. The fruit rojak was yummy. There were lots of fruits – mangoes, papaya, cucumber with a nice sprinkle of crushed peanuts and prawn crackers. Yum. The Cendol was a refreshing delight. It had just the right amount of ‘gula Melaka’ to ice ratio which was good because it still tasted the same when it melted, not diluted. There were servings of corn, red bean and the usual cendol green wormy bits. It was lovely. The Sago, at just 4 ringgit was a good deal. It was served in a mini cup which may seem little but once everything is mixed up, you’d realize that there was a generous amount of sago. I loved it.
