It has been ages since I’ve had a sandwich. I didn’t realize it until I finished my loaf of Gardenia bread. I am not a morning person and so, by the time I head out to buy a loaf – its all gone. Rather than the grocery stores and marts, this time, I decided to get my loaf from a bakery, Der Backmeister in particular. I’ve never given it a try but I’ve heard it being mentioned many times over the years, mostly in reference to the good quality of their bread and the tasty food they offer.

Considering that it is the MCO period, I am aware that besides the opening hours, their Menu may differ from the usual too. So, the first thing I did was head to their FB page to get some information on their current offerings and as soon as I came across Pesto Chicken Sandwich – which I am a fan of, then came the realization that I’ve gone without sandwiches for way too long. It had to be rectified immediately, lol.

Interested in ordering anything?? The whole thing is done via the Oddle platform. Besides take-away/self pick up, they also do “next day delivery” via Lalamove. If you guys are planning to pick up the items yourself from the bakery, make sure that you are within 10 km radius, yeah?

Using Oddle was pretty easy. First, you’d come across the items they offer, you pick what you want, then choose your date & time for pick up and you are set. The available option for payment is Cash on Delivery (COD). When the time is nearing, you head on over to the bakery. Once there, they’d give you a ‘nombor giliran’. Only one customer is allowed to enter the bakery at a time, the rest of us wait outside for our turn.

While I was ordering online, I wasn’t sure about getting the bread and so, I only put in an order for the sandwich. When I was there though, upon inquiring, I was told that I can purchase the bread at the bakery itself, I can also order drinks too at that point. Customer service was great. They were all friendly, welcoming and accommodating. So yea, do not worry if you did not include all the items you need in your order online via Oddle, you can add on at the bakery itself if the items are available.

Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich, 18 ringgit

The sandwich was delicious and I don’t know if you noticed – it was huge, yawwww. Literally a case of “I can eat half now and the rest later” situation. Basically, you’d get a large piece of Ciabatta bread with pesto + grilled chicken + tomatoes + cheese. It was surprisingly delicious. Why surprising? because simply judging from the size of the bread to filling ratio, it did not seem to match. However, upon tasting it, it tasted awesome. You’d be able to taste the pesto and grilled chicken just fine despite the thickness of the bread.

Poppyseed Bun, 4 ringgit each

I also decided to pick up some Poppyseed Buns, 4 pieces to be exact. It sure was well coated with the seeds and size wise, it may not be big but it was filling. A lil on the harder side in terms of texture but it was not a big issue. All I had to do was lightly toast it with some butter and problem solved. Taste-wise, it tasted ‘cheesy’? and somewhat similar to a sourdough. I wouldn’t mind buying myself the buns again.
