Affordable Fried Chicken Good Mutton Curry Good Nasi Kandar Halal Nasi Kandar Underrated

ATS Curry House @ Seksyen 22, PJ – Ooo man, tasty Nasi Kandar with mutton curry to die for 😍😍 (Halal)

If you are a fan of Nasi Kandar, you most probably would like ATS. If you like heading to eateries that are not mainstream, more of the under-the-radar kind, ATS is perfect for you. Bear in mind that while the selection of dishes isn’t as diverse as other restaurants, they more than make up for it with good taste and flavor.

So, here we are back again in Seksyen 22. Well, if you guys read our previous post, you’d know why. The last visit was to indulge in some Nyonya food at –Β Sri Nyonya @ Seksyen 22, PJ – Awesome nyonya food (Pork Free) and this time to try this curry house that apparently serves good nasi kandar.

Of course, prior to Sri Nyonya, I did not know of the existence of this neighborhood, which includes ATS. I only noticed this eatery on my way to the nyonya restaurant as it was located opposite the road. What caught my attention was the long que and how packed the roadside stall/restaurant was.

It got me curious and so, I went onto Google to check reviews and I guess it was no surprise that it was rated highly – an average score of 4.1/5 from over 400 folks. In those reviews, there was a repeat mention of really good Mutton Curry, yummy Briyani and Nasi Kandar.

During lunch hour, there usually is a waiting line. Worry not though as the que moves quickly. Depending on your time of visit, all tables may be occupied. Again, worry not as most customers eat and leave as soon as they are done which means that although almost all tables are occupied, it empties quickly too. I barely had to wait for 5 minutes despite it being full house.

Plate 1 + Plate 2 = 24 ringgit

Plate 1 consisted of a full plate of rice with an omelette + fried chicken + taugeh, with a side of papadum. The curry we opted for was a mix of chicken and mutton curry. The first thing we tasted was the curry and ooooo, it had plenty of flavor. The taste of spice was evident. Thick and tasty, it was. I was in love with the fried chicken. It was surprisingly tender and juicy. Usually with meat that are fried, they tend to get chewy, the tenderness is most often lost. Here, it is miraculously retained. The out layer of chicken skin was well seasoned with spices. So, when eaten with the curry, the mix of flavors and spices was utterly divine. Oh, if there is ‘onion sambal’ available, do add that on because it makes everything even better. The ‘sambal’ was a tad spicy and mostly sweet. It provides a nice mix to the overall taste of Plate 1.

The second plate consisted of rice, taugeh and mutton curry, with a side of mutton. If this is your meat of choice, their standard serving includes a bone marrow with a generous portion of meat and curry. Upon tasting it, I can see why it is a crowd favorite. The mutton gravy was well flavored but I fell in love with the meat itself. While I like mutton, I find the overchewing that most often is required is exhausting. My jaw usually hurts by the time I am done. I’m glad that it is not the case here. The meat is tender and because it soaks up the gravy, biting into it was awesome. I like that it was easy. Slurping up the bone marrow and making sounds that are not gracefull is a rather common team here, lol. No one cares. So, slurp away.

I had an awesome time here. The mutton and its gravy was really good and the Nasi Kandar overall was delicous. I’d certainly be back here.
