Gong Poh Chicken Noodles Rice Set Lunch Wan Tan Mee

Penang Famous Ah Niu Wan Tan Mee @ Damansara Jaya, PJ – Niceeee πŸ™‚

Considering it was a long weekend due to the Hari Raya Haji holidays and I was stuck in KL pretty much on my own, I decided to aimlessly drive around. No ‘balik kampung’ for me as I had to remain here due to some work obligations. Most of my friends left town as soon as work ended on Thursday and have been rubbing it to my face ever since with pictures of food and get-togethers .. Ugh! Pure evil.

Anyways, roads were empty and it was a good time to drive around. Initial plan was to head to Sungai Pelek/Tanjung Sepat but that didn’t happen. Long story short, I drove around KL City Centre, ‘lepak’ at The Linc for a bit and on my way back, somehow ended up in Damansara Jaya.

The signboard caught my eye. Why? Well, because Penang food is good and if this Ah Niu wan tan mee is Penang famous – it is worth a try, right? Have any of you tried the branch in Penang? Is it truly famous and good? I have not and so, I wouldn’t be able to compare the two. My experience is solely based on what I’ve tasted here in KL.

During lunch hour, the restaurant was full. It clearly is a neighborhood favorite. I also notice that their pau/bao was in demand. Many customers drop by just to buy several packets of them. Must be good, ey?

Menu

Char Siew Wan Tan Mee (Big), 8.50 ringgit + Gong Poh Chicken, 12.90 ringgit

Food was nice. I liked the fact that the noodles used here were the thin version. I like it better this way because to me, it allows me to enjoy the overall dish better. Simply a matter of preference, I suppose. I ordered the Large/Big option here and it came with a lot of noodles. The taste overall was nice. My only issue was the pork meat itself. For a large portion, the meat seemed rather little and most of it was thinly sliced. It was just enough to provide you with a taste. Perhaps with the Small option, the portion may seem good enough but with the large, it was little. Besides that, it was all good

The Gong Poh Chicken was from their Lunch Set which besides the main dish, also comes with soup and a drink. There was rice + an egg with a generous portion of chicken. The Gong Poh chicken comes with equal amount of cubed chicken, onions and dried chilli with sweet, kechuppy gravy. Yummy it was.
