I headed to Cheras for a short ‘catch up’ session with a friend and he suggested we head to this hidden cafe. Both of us are fans of something difference and when I was told that De Brush Cafe is basically a cafe in a house concept – I got all excited. So, off we headed to this cafe for a ‘lunch’ lepak session.
The cafe itself was warm and cosy. I liked the fact that it blocks out the outside world. The only way to enter is through the front door, which is kept close unless you are entering or leaving. So, you are basically in a world of your own here, a temporary escape from reality? If this eatery is located near my home, I’d most definitely make this my go-to spot. Considering there is free Wifi and all, whenever I am alone and in need of a break, I could bring my laptop and head over here … have lunch while getting some work done. However, since it is located all the way in Cheras, I shall just be content on visiting it once in a while. This cafe also is perfect a small gathering. If you guys are all about keeping it small and personal, this is one eatery you can consider.
Parking: Well, parking was easy because honestly, everyone parked everywhere, lol. I don’t think you’d need to worry about ‘kena saman’ here. We parked among the houses itself. If you drive past this cafe and take the next left turn into the housing area, you’d find some suitable, convenient spots there. FOC of course, lol.
Bacon Carbonara, RM 24.90 + Chicken Chop, RM 20
I felt like having pasta but I was in the mood for something dry, yet thick and creamy and this carbonara dish was suggested to me. It was axactly what I wanted. The pasta gooey and creamy … imagine a mix of whipping cream + full cream milk with cheese and egg yolk? Give it a nice mix and then slurp up the pasta … yummm!!! The bacon added some texture, some crispyness and flavor, saltiness to the dish overall. A filling and tasty dish.
For the second dish, we decided to go for the lunch set, which consisted of a main dish and drink of our choice. We opted for Chicken Chop with Mint Lemonade. The mash potato was surprisingly good. Why so? because I generally like mash potato that is smooth and buttery. The one here was a combination of smooth and tiny solid chunks. Upon tasting it though, the nice mix between the two was a combination that worked well. There was also bits of ham? that was scattered all over the mash, the addition made the mash even better. I liked it. The chicken chop was delicious. It had a thin, crispy layer on the outside and juicy, tender meat on the inside. We had a choice between BBQ sauce and Pepper, we opted for BBQ. They were nice enough to add on an additional yellow sauce they refer to as the Fruity sauce. To me, it tasted like sweet-ish marmalade jam except it was liquiddy instead of solid. I love marmalade and so, I immediate took a liking to this sauce. When drizzled on the chicken chop, it provided a rather unique flavor to the dish overall. It was tasty. The dish also came with a side of salad, a nice portion of greens with vinagerette dressing. The Mint Lemonade was a good choice, especially on a hot day. It was refreshing and cool.
My ‘catch up’ session with my friend was great, we had a good time here. The ambiance was nice, food was good. Customer service was excellent. A pleasant experience overall.
