Belly & the Chef @ Cheras – Pretty good πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ (Pork free)

Well, since the Covid 19 cases are on the rise now, I figured I might as well order food onlinelah today. I’m working from home anyways, so this was a perfect choice. As you’d most probably realise, the online food business is thriving these days, a sudden bloom in the midst of the pendemic. So naturally, I had many options. However, since this was a last minute decision, half of those options weren’t available to me as most of them had an ordering cut off time, usually by the night before. Belly & the Chef was one of those that did not. Yay! Their offerings were interesting too and on top of that, they were also on GrabFood, Foodpanda which takes care of delivery if I needed it.

Once I have decided on the dishes of interest, I opted for Self Collect as oppose to delivery because I noticed that some items were not available on Grabfood and Foodpanda as it would if I chose to Self Collect instead. One item being their crowd favorite – Hainanese Chicken Rice. I was in the mood for it and considering Cheras was not too far away from where I was, Self Pickup it was.

Payment method available was via online bank transfer, cash, Touch n Go or Boost.

Belly & the Chef is located in Cheras Business Centre. If you have not been there before, it basically consist of rows and rows of shops, a business park of some sort. Waze will lead you to it but the specific location seem to be wrongly tagged? So, just look out for Block D, one of the shop lots on the Ground floor of this block is Belly & the Chef.

Hainanese Chicken Rice, RM 13.90 + Personalized Salad Bowl, RM 18.90

Their tagline is “healthy food served in a fine dining manner.” I agree, especially with the Chicken Rice. I do not think I’ve had chicken rice served in this fancy manner 😁😁

The Hainanese Chicken Rice is their crowd favorite and it sure was delicious. It tasted exactly as it should. The rice was seasoned and dense, just how I liked it. The steamed chicken was generous. There were about 8 pieces and each piece was thick. This meant that a single piece can last you through a few mouths of rice. My usual problem with chicken rice is that the chicken finishes before the rice. That sure wasn’t an issue here. It was thick and steamed to perfection. I enjoyed it lots. The dish also comes with an egg, broccoli and a serving of soy sauce, chili paste and garlic paste. This was a good dish πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

This dish was good too, it however caused a conflict between my brains and I. My brains duped me into thinking that this was a rice bowl 😭😭 instead of a salad bowl. So, there I was thinking I was going to have a generous portion of rice but instead, it was barely 4 mouthfuls of brown rice. For a whole second, I could not understand what was going on. What is this … a rice bowl without a good portion of rice? And for the next 5 seconds, I sat there and sulked until my friend enlightened me that this was a Personalized SALAD BOWL and not a RICE BOWL. Okay, I get it, my bad.

Once I got over my misunderstanding, the dish was pretty enjoyable. As this was a personalized bowl, i got to pick the items myself. My combination of choice were Brown Rice + Slow Cooked Chicken Breast + Pumpkin, Bell Pepper, Egg + Curry. Overall, this salad bowl was yummy. It certainly was a healthy meal. The chicken was soft and generous in portion size. Having it with the vegetables and rice was awesome. The only downside was the insane amount of lettuce, which I am not really a fan off. It was not part of the vegetables I picked but I think it is one of those items that readily accompanies the salad bowl whether or not you picked it. There was just a lot of it though that I ended up having to remove some of it because if I did not, it would have overshadowed the other ingredients.

Seeee … I aint kidding. If you like lettuce and leafy greens of this sort, then sure, you’d enjoy it. I however, could do without this large amount because I am not really a fan. Besides the overwhelming amount of lettuce, everything else was nice and yummy.
