Bacon & Truffle Risotto Fried Mozzarella sticks Italian Mozzarella Fritta Pasta Pesto Pasta Risotto Variety of pasta

Basil Pasta House @ Kuchai Lama – Better than expected πŸ‘πŸ‘

We were in the Kuchai Lama area yesterday noon to purchase some items at the IT shop there. Once that was done, it was just in time for lunch and so, we looked up for options online which eventually led us to this highly rated restaurant – Basil Pasta House. On Google, they have an average score of 4.4/5 from over 1180 peeps. Must be good, ey? Based on that thought, we decided to head over there for lunch.

Basil Pasta House has been around for 5 years and is evidently a neighborhood favorite. People seem to love this eatery. There was incoming flow of customers, non stop. Despite it being a week day, it was still full house.

As its name may suggest, it is all about pasta here. The amount of pasta options and offerings here are insane!! I do not think I’ve come across any cafe or restaurant locally that serves up this many pasta offerings. Sooo many choices πŸ€ͺπŸ€ͺ. Me being a fickle minded person, this many available options is a troubling thing as it took me a looooong while to make a choice, much to the dismay of my friend, lol.

Menu

See what I meant about the having so many choices? After much deliberation, we landed on something.

Mozzarella Fritta, RM 17.90 + Pesto Genovese, RM25.90 + Pork Bacon & Truffle Risotto, RM 29.90

This dish we ordered because we loveeeee mozzarella. It comes with 3 pieces of deep fried mozzarella sticks. In between the cheese and the fried breaded outer later, they’ ve inserted pieces of pork bacon. Yummm!! Sooo delicious. The taste of gooey cheese and pork bacon was simply divine. If only the dish came with more than 3 pieces of cheese sticks, i’d be in heaven ..oh well, one can dream.

I do not know about you guys but I loveeeee pesto and so, naturally I went for their pesto offering – Pesto Genovese. If you happen to be one of those who likes their dish with loads of pesto packed into it, you’d love this. I certainly did. Every mouthful was simply a delight. It was rich with basil and parmesan. I also appreciate that they put in some pine nuts. Loads of cafes nowadays forego that and instead opting to put almond flakes and sometimes bizarrely peanuts. Not here though. It was a joy eating this dish. The fettuccine, the pesto, pork bacon, tomatoes, pine nut … an satisfying. combination.

For risotto, R1, R4 and R6 are their crowd favorites. We decided on R4 because we liked bacon and truffle. The risotto was yummy too. This dish includes rice, white truffle sauce, white wine, black truffle paste, bacon, peas and several other vegetables. It was flavorful, delicious, gooey and warm. The distinct taste of truffle was evident from the get go. A delicious dish.

I was very impressed with the dishes I’ve tasted here. This restaurant may just seem like your usual, typical neighborhood favorite eatery but based on the dishes I’ve had alone, it seem like the food could pass off as a dish in a fine dining restaurant, tastewise. So basically, it was fine dining quality food and a normal restaurant. Yup, I’d be back for more.
