Most folks from and around Petaling Jaya knows of Kwong Wah. It is a popular, crowd favorite for Cendol, ABC and many more. Kwong Wah use to be located in Happy Mansion for years. However, they’ve recently moved to a new location, a short distance away. Where exactly? Within the same area as Tujoh Cafe and Wild Sheep Home.

Menu

Cendol, RM 5.50 + ABC, RM 5.50 + Chicken Curry Bun, RM 3 + Tom Yum Mee Hoon, RM 3.50

Between the Cendol and ABC, I preferred the Cendol. In my opinion, if you want to enjoy it at its best, you should request an add-on of red bean at a cost of 50 cents. Otherwise, it would be a case of lots of shaved ice with green ‘wormies’ and gula melaka with little red bean. With the add on, it will all be equal in portion size. I liked it, a perfect dessert to have on a hot day.

The top part of the ABC was similar to the cendol, the only difference was that here, it was without redbeans. The bottom part is different. As you can see from the image above, there were some jellys and corn.

One thing I’ve learned about the buns served here, the texture is rarely consistent. It has been the case even when Kwong Wah was at Happy Mansion. On some days, you’d get nice, soft and airy buns and on other days, you’d get hardened, dry buns. On this day, I got the latter version. The filling consisted of some potatoes with chicken in dry curry. As flavorful as it was, there was little of it, wished there was more.

The noodle was okay but the tom yum flavor was rather mild – as in, you can hardly taste it. If I were to close my eyes and taste it, tom yum mee hoon would not be the first thing I’d say to describe it. That being said, as a basic dish of noodles, it was pretty nice, worth the RM 3.50, I suppose.
