Banana Leaf Rice Chicken Varuval Fried Tenggiri Fish Indian New 2021 Open Daily

Big Leaf BLR @ Sec. 17, PJ – New kid on the block 😍😍

We accidentally discovered this newbie on our way to Tujoh Cafe. As soon as we learned that they serve banana leaf rice here, we changed direction of course, lol. Big Leaf has been opened for the past 2 weeks and from the looks of crowd pouring in during lunch hour, this may be a neighborhood favorite soon enough.

Menu

Banana Leaf Rice, RM 8.50 + Chicken Varuval, RM 8 + Tenggiri Fish, RM 10

Food was pretty good. The Banana leaf rice comes with white rice (they only offer white rice for now, no Indian/brown rice), curry of your choice (chicken, sambar, salted fish and crab) and 3 vegetables (cucumber, bittergourd and cabbage). Depending on the server you get, he’d put very, very little vegetables on your leaf, sooo little that your can scoop it up with a tablespoon. He perhaps has not been to many indian restaurants to know that such small serving size almost never happens, lol. Requesting for more was easy though, he did not put up a fuss while unloading more vegetables onto my leaf.

For the curry, I opted for chicken. I liked that the curry was thick however, it lacked something. Tastewise, it was a little low in spice? I think. No biggie though because where the curry lacked, the fish and chicken varuval made up for it as it came with plenty of flavors and spice. Overall, it was ‘sedap’. I enjoyed the food. I surpisingly ended up farting soo much the rest of the day and guess what the fart smelled like?? Durian!!! How on earth does indian food translate to my fart smelling like durian, I may never know, lol but it sure was potent. Powerrr ooooo! Ummm, this is TMI, huh? Best I stop now. 🀣🀣🀣

  1. You are certainly right to say the curries at Big Leaf BLR lacks spices as I experienced the same on my first lunch visit. In fact my fingers didn’t smell of spices like they normally do at other BLR places. Hence, I find the food there not at all delicious.
