Chicken Burger Chicken Wings Different levels of spice & heat Drummettes Going Bananas Habanero Hot sauces Nashville New 2021 Pork Free Whistlin Woman

Soul Byrd @ Seksyen 17, PJ – Hot & spicy Southern chicken wings πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Today we ‘bungkus’ lunch from this newly opened, 3 weeks old restaurant whose specialty is chicken wings/drummettes. Not just any chicken wings but wings nicely coated with cajun spices and unique mixtures of sauces. If you can handle the heat, Soul Byrd is a must try. Of course, for the light hearted, they also offer mild, little to none, spice free version. So worry not as there are choices and options for everyone.

Anyways, Soul Byrd is located next to Tipsy Boar, Tipsy Boar @ Section 17, Pj – oooo Yummm! Burp! πŸ˜€ and within the same row of shops as Kanna Curry House and Omulab. Unlike the usual, since it is MCO now and also Raya holidays, there were plenty of parking available. It was a rather easy breezy trip to the restautant. We only ordered after we arrived and not before. Food arrived within 15 minutes. Time passed rather quickly as the ladyboss was friendly and chatty. So yea, it was eazy breezy.

Menu

Chicken Wing & Drummettes (12 pieces), RM 35

We opted for 12 pieces, a mix of wings and drummettes. There is basically 2 levels of spicyness involved. The first involves the chicken itself and second involves the sauces accompanying the chicken.

For the chicken, we decided to go with the spiciest option – Nashville. Apparently, its a crowd favorite and if you can handle the heat, go for it. Just by eating it on its own, your mouth starts getting tingly as a result of the spicyness.

Then comes the second level of heat – the sauces. For this, we went with the most popular options – Whistlin Woman and Going Bananas. I loved Going Bananas because it was sweet-ish with an underlying taste of spicyness . It does wonders when your mouth is on fire. It helps tone down the heat in your mouth. Whistlin Woman is not for me, lol. I simply could not cope with it. My mouth was already burning as a result of going brave by picking the spiciest option for chicken – Nashville and then having to add on the spiciest sauce, full on habanero??? Nope, I could not do it. It was simply tooo spicy for me. The others though, especially the one who gets a kick out of pushing the limits, he could slurp it up like its dessert. What the hell? Well, this is the same guy who has eaten bhut jolokia and is still alive so…no surprise why he loves Whistlin Woman 😡😡😡

Chicken Sandwich, RM 20

This is basically a chicken burger. The unique thing here is that similar to the chicken wings, you can pick the level of spicyness you want for your chicken as well as the sauce you want accompanying it. We opted for Nashville again but with the burger because it was layered with buns and coleslaw, the spiciness was muted down a bit. Still spicy but at a level us regular folks can handle. I enjoyed the burger. I have not had that many spicy burgers lately and so this offered me something I was missing. The patty was thick and flavorful, juicy too.

Fries, RM 7

Yea well, when I ordered this dish, I honestly thought I’d be getting some fries and not wedges. So, I was a tad bummed out for a minute there. However, upon tasting it, I decided I liked it. It was crispy and had a crunch, even the bigger ones. I am not really a fan of wedges because while the thinner ones resemble fries, the thick ones tend to be thick and lumpy. Not here though. It was crispy, tasty and good.

Southern Cocolate Cake

This cake is made up of 70% cocoa. If you fancy a slice of cake that is not too sweet, this could be it for you. The cake was dense and came with a thin layer of chocolate ganache. After the overload of spice, this was a good reliever.
