We were craving for some Indian food for lunch today and rather than head to our usual spots, we instead decided to drive around the area and see what’s available. Of late, there has been a bloom in the numbers of roadside stalls serving an array of dishes and cuisines … why not give these guys a try, right?
After driving around for a bit, we came across Amma Mess. It was a black food truck that was strategically located in a corner along Lorong Ara Kiri 3. The truck is positioned outside Restoran Sin Lai Ping and nearby Saleem – Saleemβs Stall/Navvir Caterers @ Lucky Garden, Bangsar β Awesome Mee Mamak (Halal) .

For lunch, if you opt for rice – they offer about 6,7 dishes? 3 vegetables, and several meat dishes.

Two servings of rice + 2 serving of vegetables + 2 serving of chicken parathal + 1 fried fish , RM 26

It certainly tasted homecooked. Simple, no frills Indian food. The chicken parathal was yummy. A good portion of meat that was tasty and flavorful. It was mildly spicy, not ‘pedas’. The fried fish would have tasted great if not for its saltiness. It was a tad too salty. I was not comfortable eating it on its own as the saltiness got a little overwhelming after a while. However, when eaten with the rice, the saltiness reduced tremendously and it ended up tasting okay. The mixed vegetables were tasty. It was a nice mix of couliflower, long beans, carrots and tofu.

The rasam tasted nice … however, if you are a fan, I’d suggest that you request more than 1 serving because you’d get very little. When poured into a cup, most restaurants usually provide me with enough rasam to reach atleast half of it but as you can see from the image above, it was nowhere close. So, do request for extras if you are a rasam fan.
** Also, I was told that there would be papadum – despite requesting for some, I suppose they forgot to include it as I did not receive any. It was not a must for me and so, I was totally okay eating without it. If papadum is necessary for you, best you check your order immediately upon receiving it so that anything missing can be replaced.
Overall, a nice experience. It has been a while since I’ve had some simple, homecooked food and so, I enjoyed the Indian food from Amma Mess.
