Chicken Satay Day Trip Drive out of town Famous Halal Open Daily Satay XL sized satays

Satay Hut @ Tanjong Karang, Selangor – Satay, satay, satay…. (Halal)

My friends and I decided to take a break from work and head out of town for lunch. By mutual agreement, we all decided on having satay. After skimming through the internet for good options, we came across Satay Hut. It had an average rating of 4.2/5 from over 1770 folks …. must be good, ey? This eatery was perfect for us as it serves satay and is out of town.

Once we fueled up, off we went. From KL, it took us about 1 hour and 50 minutes to reach the restaurant. We decided on driving using the ‘back way/road’ as oppose to tol road. The difference was only 30 minutes and we looked forward to driving pass ol’ school towns that we’d probably miss if we used the highway.

So, if you guys feel like taking a drive out of town, for a couple of hours – this would be good. You could also make it into a day trip or an overnight stay. Sekinchan is just 45 minutes away. Plenty to do to keep everyone happy and occupied.

One negative thing repeatedly mentioned in the comments/reviews was the long waiting time once it got crowded. So, we timed our journey to arrive there 15 minutes after it opens for the day. It was perfect as the crowd was just starting to pick up. Orders were taken as soon as we were ready and food arrived within 10 minutes.

Menu

Satay Big (10 sticks), RM 22 + Satay Medium (5 sticks), RM 5.50

While they also serve noodles and rice, we came here to give their satay a go and so, that was what we went for. If you looked through their menu, you’d notice that the satays here come in 2 sizes.

The image above displays the difference between a medium and a big satay. To me, the Medium is similar to the usual size you’d find at any satay shops and the Big is that very satay in XL version. It certainly was bigger than usual, more filling too. Between the two, I prefered the Medium. Why? It felt like the Medium had an equal amount of meat to flavor ratio. Usually the outer layer of the satay is sweet and flavorful, right? So, when u bite into it, you’d get a good amount of flavorful meat mix. With Big though, you’d get alot of meat but the sweet, flavorful outer layer is similar to the Medium in amount. It wasn’t in equal proportion. Some of my friends shared my opinion while the others were totally cool with more meat. Tastewise, as mentioned earlier, I liked the Medium. It was tasty and flavorful, the meat was juicy and tender.

I am sure by now we all have our own favorite spots for satay, a spot closer to home. However, if you feel like a drive, a short trip out of town, you guys can always head to Satay Hut. The satays were pretty good. We all had a good time.
