Wu Di Cafe @ Jln. Galloway, KL – Not feeling it πŸ˜‘

We are a self sponsored blog and that meant that we fork out our own hard earn cash whenever we review an eatery. In the event where we end up spending more money than anticipated, we’d expect the standard and quality of food to reflect the price. In this case, sadly, I do not think it was 😑😑😑 or rather it was overpriced for what it was. Spent RM 92 for this? Whaaaatttttttt??? Don’t get me wrong. Some eateries, they deserve the RM 92 bucks because service, food and the overall experience was exceptional. Wu Di however, I beg to differ. Sure, it looks pretty but everything else was not as memorable.

Anyways, Wu Di is a month old restaurant located within the same row of shops as VCR, a few doors away from one another. It has two floors and the interior of the whole building was clearly well thought off. It was aesthetically pleasing and most definitely Instagrammable.

When we reached the cafe right up to the time we were seated and our orders were taken – it was all good. However, when we requested for a glass of water and was told that the only option available was Acqua Panna bottled water at a cost of RM 13, that was when it slowly started going downhill. I am totally okay with paying for a bottle of water but RM 13 though??? I did not quite like that but hey, it is up to them on what they intend to sell and at what cost.

We initially wanted to try the Wu Di Buratta Lemak, which apparently is a best seller but unfortunately, it was sold out by the time we arrived. So, eventually we landed on Big Breakfast and Chicken Mapotofu with Baked Eggs.

Chicken Mapotofu with Baked Eggs, RM 29

This dish was …. I don’t know what to say. I wasn’t feeling it. The baked eggs were overly salty, too salty to a point that if I ate anymore, my blood pressure might spike up. I ain’t kidding. We’ve visited many restaurants and at times, the gravies especially may be a tad too salty but once you add in the rice or roti, it tends to tone down the saltyness to an acceptable level. Here though, the parotha was not helpful at all. With the roti or not, it was still too salty. Too salty that we had to let them know. They decided to redo the dish for us without much hassle, thank you. Meanwhile, the waitress that attended to us kindda advised us to give the dish a good mix before having a taste to make sure all the flavors are nicely blend together and she did repeat it a few times. We too did repeat a few times that we did mix it all up, even had a video of the mixing as proof. So, they cant argue with that, can they? It goes without saying that its what one does with baked eggs and dishes like shaksouka. Trust me, the baked eggs were well mixed. We do not just have one video but several as evidence. Several videos meant several times of mixing and when you combine all of it, it has undergone a whole lot of mixing. Problem was, it simply was too salty, overwhelmingly so.

Eventually, the rectified version arrived and it was as it should be. Tasted decent. It included baked eggs, minced chicken and tofu. It would be nice if they included an extra parotha. While waiting to get the waitress attention regarding the over salted baked eggs, we ended up munching on the parotha because that was the only nice thing to eat at that point. It was basically ONE parotha cut into smaller spieces. If you are sharing this dish with another, you’d only have 4 pieces each. It was hardly enough. When the baked eggs arrived back at our table, there was no parotha left. So yea, it would have been nice to get an extra serving of parotha. After all, parothas are cheap. However, I got the feeling that anything is possible here as long as you pay for it, nothing is for free. Overall, this is not a dish I’d reorder. I wasn’t feeling it.

Big Breakfast, RM 32

The big breakfast was pretty good. I liked the toasted sourdough topped with truffle oil scrambled egg. It was flavorful and tasty. Besides that, you’d get two sausages, salad, red beans and a green chutney that was supposedly beetroot spread. Yea, this dish was satisfying. It was filling and tasted pretty good.

Belgium Ice Chocolate, RM 15 + Long Black, RM 10

Both drinks were nice. The ice chocolate was yummy. It was milky and chocolatty.

Would I be back here? I would not. It simply is not my cup of tea. It looks pretty, totally instagrammable but everything else wasn’t memorable for me. I certainly did not leave the restaurant feeling like I was fed delicious meals. Nope. What crossed my mind was … almost a hundred bucks spent for this ??? ☹ Perhaps they were trying to keep up with the other eateries in the area – VCR and Three Years Old Cafe in terms of pricing but … I simply wasn’t feeling this one.
