Asam Laksa Cendol Cheras Chicken Floss with Kewpie Chicken Sando Dennie Chicken Sandwich Jalan Kaskas Mochi + chakoi New 2021 : July Red Bean Gula Melaka Taman Yulek Youtiao Mochi

The Den at Taman Yulek, Cheras – Surprisingly good (Pork free)

After concluding a work meet nearby, we decided to drive around Taman Yulek for a bit to see whats new in the area. There are plenty of eateries in this area and every now and then, a new one pops up. After doing a couple of rounds, we eventually came across this 6 month old cafe, The Den.

** Taman Yulek is the same area where the popular cafe Ebony & Ivory is located – Ebony & Ivory Coffee @ Taman Cheras – Awesome experience.

It is a neighborhood cafe that occupies a corner lot. The Den is located on the ground floor of a low density flat.

Customer service was good and food arrived rather quickly.

Menu

Youtiao Mochi (half half), RM 8

This was delicious. I was expecting plain ol’ michi when I ordered this but what I received was a pleasant surprise. It was just mochi.

With Half Half, you’d get to choose 2 flavors, which we opted for Red Bean Gula Melaka and Chicken Floss with Kewpie. One was sweet and the other was savory.

It comes with 3 layers – bottom: chakoi, middle: mochi, topping: red bean with gula melaka drizzle, chicken floss with kewpie drizzle. This was interesting. I’ve had mochi before but mochi on chakoi? Never. It turned out surprisingly good. Yutiao Mochi is a dish worth trying πŸ‘Œ

Asam Laksa, RM 9.80 + Dennie Chicken Sandwich, RM 15.90

Asam Laksa
Dennie Chicken Sandwich

Both dishes tasted yummy. The Asam Laksa came with slightly thickened broth, pineapples, noodles, fish and a spring roll. The dish overall was tasty, flavorful and filling.

The Dennie Chicken Sandwich consisted of toasted bread with a generous portion of thick, boneless chicken set on a bed of daun limau coleslaw and bunga kantan butter. Thr chicken by itself was a tad salty for me but when eaten with the bread and coleslaw, it was perfect. Be sure to eat this on an empty stomach as it is sure to fill you up.

Cendol, RM 5.80

To conclude our visit here, we ordered ourselves Cendol. It was pretty good, not to sweet and with the right amount of ice. As it has been ages since I’ve last had this local dessert, I enjoyed this. If there was one thing I could change, I’d most probably request for more red beans .. but that is only because Ioveeee red beans.

Would I head back here? I would love to but sadly, The Den is not located close to me. So, visits here would most probably happen only when I end up in the area, once in a blue moon.
