Banh Mi Chicken Satay Northern Vietnamese food in PJ Spring rolls Vietnamese

Jane’s Nem at Seksyen 17, PJ – Northern Vietnamese food

In all honesty, I know nothing about Vietnamese food. Last I tried it was back in 2006 and yea … I was not a fan. In the past 16 years since then, I did not think about it, nor did I miss it.

I decided to give it a go now because of Jane’s Nem. I’ve seen an increase of social media coverage on this Vietnamese restaurant of late. Apparently, this eatery serves authentic Northern Vietnamese food. What enticed me to pay them a visit was their bahn mi. It looked like a less fancy version of a Subway sandwich 😁😁. Now this, I can do. Their Pho noodle soup, I’ll save that for another day. The last pho I tasted back in 2006 was the reason why I kept away from this particular cuisine and I am not that excited for another try 🀣🀣

Jane’s Nem is on the first floor, above 99 Speed Mart. It is located within a row of shops that faces Seventeen Mall. Look for the yellow colored entrance next to the mart. Ring the door bell for entry. Parking: You can park by the roadside if there is a spot available. Otherwise, do park in the mall, at a rate of RM 2 for 2 hour.

Chicken Satay Banh Mi, RM9

I started off with this dish. To me, it seemed like a less fancier version of a Subway sandwich 😁. The bread used was made inhouse, a fresh batch everyday. The texture was similar to that of a french bread/baguette. The outer part was crumbly and flaky, the inner part was softer. The filling included pieces of marinated boneless chicken with pickled vegetables and chilli. It was a decent sandwich. A good dish to start with in order to ease myself into this cuisine.

Fresh Spring Roll with Chicken & Prawn, RM 12

As I was still hungry after the Banh Mi, I decided to order myself some fresh spring rolls. It was a healthy and filling dish. In the menu, it was mentioned that I’d be served 3 rolls. I forgot that these particular rolls were usually long in size. I guess the 3 rolls became 6 because it was halved. This certainly filled me up. Yup, no more hunger.

Would I head back here? Yes, I would. Looking around, I noticed that all the tables had atleast one bowl of Pho on them. I’d like to return and try that dish. The rice dishes looked good too and the fried spring roll, chicken satay and etc. Yes, I’d like to give the other dishes a try soon.
