Aunty Sam Kitchen at Damansara Jaya – Yummy

Today was one of those days whereby I ended up having lunch on my own. Once I concluded some work in Damansara Jaya, I decided to ‘ronda’ the area to see if there were anything new that I may fancy. There were a couple but I ended up at Aunty Sam Kitchen mainly because I managed to find a parking spot directly outside the restaurant. As you most probably already know, getting a parking spot here during the day is quite a feat and so, I took it as it was meant to be.

** Parking: Just in case you are not as lucky as I was, worry not. Aunty Sam is located next to a multi level public carpark. You’d be able to park in there and walk over. No sweat.

*** They accept ONLY CASH for any bill that is below RM 100. Bills RM 100 and above can pay using credit/debit card.

I honestly did not know what to expect when I walked it as this was a spur in the moment kind of visit. Luckily, I visited after lunch hour. There were other customers but it was not crowded. So, I can take my own sweet time deciding what to eat because they offer an array of dishes here – noodles, rice, meat, vegetables and etc. for both large groups and individuals. Soooo many choices but as I am on my own today, I shall stick to the single plate options.

Menu

Sambal Prawn & Long Beans with Rice, RM 17 + Lemongrass with Red Date (Iced), RM 4

The Sambal Prawn and Long Beans with White Rice was delicious. I enjoyed this dish. There were 5 medium sized prawns with a good serving of long beans, cooked in Nyonya style (if I am not mistaken). It was not spicy but had plenty of flavor. Having it with the rice was awesome. I was feeling rather nostalgic when eating as it took me back to my student days. All of us were away from home and we rarely splurge on anything but once in a very blue moon, we will share cost and spend it on some seafood from the market because there was one among us that was a good cook. This dish reminded me of the prawn sambal she made. The good old days.

The Lemongrass with Red Date drink was okay. If you are one who likes the strong version whereby you can immediate tell that it was lemongrass … you’d be let down here. It was mild. What I had was the watered down version. Perhaps they had already made a good amount of it to last throughout lunch and as I was the last few to drop by, I got the balance of what had been soaking in ice for quite a while? Anyways, as it cost me RM 4, I was not too bothered about it.

Overall, the food I had was good and I would not mind dropping by for another visit, sometime soon. I look forward to trying out the other dishes they offer.
