I’ve been hearing lots of good things about Hot Bird, a 4 month old restaurant in Uptown, Damansara Utama that specializes in Nashville Style fried chicken. Apparently the fried chicken was finger lickin’ good here.
So, here I was. I arrived 15 minutes after they opened for the day and it was fullhouse 😲😲. No kidding. All tables were occupied and the waiting line to order extended from the counter to the entrance door. It was evident from the get go that besides first timers like me, the working folks in the area absolute loved Hot Bird.
**** If you intend to drop by for lunch, you best drop by early. They open from 1 pm – 3 pm and 6 pm – 10 pm. For the noon slot, by 2.30 pm, most of their items were sold out, they had to turn people away from dining in.
So, ARRIVING EARLY IS KEY.
Lunch hour, it was bustling. Many people, lots of chatters, conversations overlapping one another, lol. It was nice to immerse myself in these sort of environment once in a while.
If there is one thing I could change, it would be the seating arrangements. Most of the working folks tend to send a representative to come over to Hot Bird, to book a table without placing any orders. All he/she does is come over, see an empty table, park his/herself there and wait for the rest of the crew to arrive and only then will they place their order collectively. What about the rest of us who has already ordered and are waiting for a table to empty? Some of the tables those office reps book remains empty for a good 15 minutes before their colleagues arrive. In those 15 minutes, some of us would be finishing up our meals if given a chance to sit. So, perhaps Hot Bird should consider having an ‘Order First, then find a Table’ policy. Fair and square laaaaaa.
2 piece Fried Chicken Combo, RM24.90 + Jumbo Tenders, RM14 + Birdie Burger, RM 18.90
Ooooo, food was gooood. If you look through the Menu, you’d notice that they offer 6 differrent heat levels. I tried level 3 and level 4 – Hot and Super Hot. I was good with Hot but Super Hot got to me after a while because my lips started burning. Man, if Level 4 had this much heat, I can only imagine how insanely hot Level 6 is going to be because there was no way in hell I will ever give it a try 😄😄.
The Jumbo Tenders cost RM 7 each. With this dish, I decided to be brave and level up to Level 4 instead. My first bite in, I was good. Third bite in, my mouth started burning 😵😵. I dont know how my friend ate the whole thing but I simply could not handle it beyond three bites.
The Birdie Burger was yummy. That boneless chicken patty was crispy, juicy and tender. I liked it so much I decided to munch on it minus the buns. Yummmm! With this particular dish, I opted for a Level 3 of hotness, which was just right. Biting into it was divine.
Looking around, literally every table had a piece of fried chicken on it. Not the burger, not the tenders but the fried chicken. So of course, we had to give it a go too. The Fried Chicken Combo was yummmm. It included 2 pieces of fried chicken + fries + drink. With Level 3 heat, it provided an appealing spicyness to the crunchy chicken. The fried chicken had a crunchy flavorful skin with tender and juicy meat. Just like the burger, biting into this fried chicken was simply divine.
Would I head back here? Heck yea. I can see why people flock to this eatery in droves. All dishes I tried were delicious. I loved it.
