After a long morning at work, I was looking forward to getting my stomach filled with some yummy food for lunch. Lunch for the day was at Baba Ho Liao in TTDI, a Nyonya restaurant I’ve been wanting to try for a while now.
** We’ve previously written here that this eatery is a part of the famed Malaccan Nyonya restaurant, Aunty Lee. This is incorrect information. While they may have collaborated in the past, Baba Ho Liao and Aunty Lee is separate from one another and Baba Ho Liao is NOT A PART of Aunty Lee. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Menu

Kangkung Sambal, RM 17 + Lemak Nenas (Ikan Senagin) + Otak-otak, RM 19

Food was gooood. The Lemak Nenas with Senangin fish was especially memorable. It had a thicker gravy that was both sweet and sour, the distinct taste of pineapple was evident throughout the dish. This dish is a crowd favorite and I can see why. It tasted awesome, most definitely a perfect dish to eat with rice. The Senangin fish was a decent size, good enough for two people. The white meat from the fish was soft and tasty. It almost seemed like it was cooked with the Lemak Nenas for a good amount of time as the taste of that delicious gravy was there, soaked in, regardless of its presence.
The Sambal Kangkung was essentially Kankung Belacan .. or atleast, it tasted like it. There were two options for Kankung – Garlic and Sambal. We went with the latter. The ‘Small’ option was good enough for two. It included a good portion of Kangkung with cili, belacan and dried prawns.
Sago Gula Melaka, RM 7.90

The Sago Gula Melaka was a perfect dessert to have after a hearty lunch. It consisted of a serving of sago in coconut milk and gula melaka on the side, which I liked because it allowed me control of how much sweetness I desire.
All in all, I had a good, delicious, wholesome lunch here. Food was tasty and I enjoyed all the dishes I tried, especially the Lemak Nenas. I look forward to dropping by again. Perhaps giving their Nyonya Laksa a go next.
