Jo’Tesha Northern Colours at Ara Damansara, PJ – Delicious local favorites (pork free)

We visited this relatively new eatery in Ara Damansara for lunch recently and thought that the food was good, we would not mind heading back for another visit. Having been around for just over two months, as its name suggest, Jo’Tesha serves local favorites with a Northern region focus. One can find dishes like Penang White Curry Mee, Penang Assam Laksa, Nasi Kunyit, Nasi Lemak and more here.

During peak hours, the restaurant is full. Not only do people who live in the area drop by, people who work nearby visit too. So, lunch hour is a crowded affair. Despite that, all my dishes arrived on time, so its all good.

Menu

Signature Penang Yam Kuih, RM 5

We ordered this dish not only because several people mentioned on Google review regarding how good it tasted, I also noticed that literally every table around me had a serving of Yam Kuih on it. So, okaylah, we ordered it ….. and it sure was delicious. I’ve never been much of a fan but this one here, I liked. It tasted great and the garnish on top was plenty. I loved it.

Nasi Lemak with InHouse Nyonya Curry Chicken, RM 14.90

I initially wanted to try their Penang White Curry Mee but that unfortunately was sold out by the time we dropped by. So, I decided to go with the Nasi Lemak instead. It was delicious. The sambal was lovely. It was not too spicy and tasted a tad different that other Nasi Lemak sambal I’ve tasted of late. The Nyonya Curry Chicken was delicious. The gravy itself was flavorful, I enjoyed slurping on it on its own. The mean was soft and tender, a perfect addition to the Nasi Lemak. The dish as a whole was yummy.

*** If you have a special request like I did, best you inform them at the counter when you place your order and pay. This is because your request will be printed on the receipt, which during peak hours, is a necessity to prevent delay and miscommunication. I requested for extra sambal and kacang. What I was served obviously did not include the ‘extra’. I then called a waiter over to ask him for the requested items. He then went to the counter, spoke to another person and 5 minutes later, they were still talking but no kacang or sambal arrived. It was only after I called another waiter over, this time showing him my receipt that clearly stated my request for extra kacang and sambal, did it finally arrive. So, remember to inform them beforehand so that there is proof of your request.

Mama Begger Chicken with Rice, RM 23.90

This was my first time ever trying out this dish. Beggar’s Chicken certainly is not a dish I’d come by regularly. From what I’ve heard, it takes hours to be cooked, baked slowly on low heat. I did not know what to expect but upon tasting it, the broth tasted like herbal soup. I usually am not a fan because of its peculiar taste but this one here was not too overpowering, overwhelming. The chicken, I loved it. It was so soft and tender, literally falls of the bone as you cut into it. The herbal broth, chicken, rice and egg … when all is mixed together and eaten, it was pretty delicious.

Mung Bean with Sago, RM 5.90

We ended our visit here with this bowl of hot dessert. It was thick with plenty of green beans and sago, sweetened just right πŸ‘Œ

All in all, it was a good lunch. I would definitely be back for another visit soon.
