One of the recent additions to this side of SS2 is this rather popular hawker style fried rice restaurant chain – Uncle Soon Fried Rice.

If I am not mistaken, they took over a spot that used to be Da Xi Kopitiam. The decor is pretty much the same, just like how it was during the kopitiam days. As a result of retaining the decor, this particular Uncle Soon outlet has a modern, chill kopitiam vibe, which certainly works for them and what they offer.
We dropped by for a visit on a weekday, during lunch hour and it was fullhouse. Many of the working folks nearby clearly enjoy having lunch at this spot. It cleared up pretty quickly too and so, waiting for a table did not take long.
Menu

Char Siou + Prawn Fried Rice, RM 14, Fried Kuey Teow, RM 13

As you’d notice, the food option here is limited, very limited by some standards but if you are sure you intend to have fried rice for the day, then you have some choices.
Both dishes ordered were okay. To me, it tasted just like any other Chinese style fried rice and noodles. Sadly, it lacked the ‘char’ taste. With it, the taste of both dishes could have been elevated to another, better level. Perhaps its simplicity is what appeals to people? It was after all crowded during my time of visit. I suppose if I was working in the area, I wouldn’t mind being a regular customer at Uncle Soon. If that is not the case and instead, I happen to be at the other side of PJ, I would not drive all the way here just to eat the fried rice and noodles, nope. The dishes were not exceptionally good or mind blowing. It was simple and normal instead. If that is what you fancy, then do drop by for a taste.
