The Lion of Punjab at Taman Desa, KL – North Indian food (pork free)

As we were in the mood for some Indian food for dinner, we decided to head over to The Lion of Punjab. This 8 month old eatery serves northern Indian food and is located in Taman Danau Desa.

The restaurant is located on the first floor, in a corner lot within a row of shops. Parking was easy. If you are in the area during the day, you are most likely to go around the block a few times before coming across an empty spot. During the night though, there were empty spots here and there, readily available.

During the time of our visit, the eatery was mostly empty. Besides another couple, we had the place all to ourselves. The restaurant itself was rather spacious and I liked that they maintained a good distance between the tables. It provided us with a sense of privacy. Customer service was good. We were attended to as soon as we were seated. Food arrived within desired time.

Menu

Paneer Pakora, RM 9 + Chicken Keema Naan, RM 13 + Butter Chicken Masala, RM 22

Food was good. We ordered the Paneer Pakora as a starter. Yummy it was. The cheese was coated with flavorful layer of flour, thanks to the spices added in. I only wish there were more on the plate because sharing it between the three of us meant that each of us had little to taste. Next time, I’ll order a whole plate just for myself. The Chicken Keema Naan had plenty of chicken stuffing in it, which I liked. They were not stingy with their fillings. The naan itself was soft and buttery, which helped enhanced the flavors of the keema. I enjoyed eating the roti by itself, without having to dip it into any gravy. The soft texture of the roti in addition to the appealing flavors of the keema made it good enough to eat on its won. As for the Butter Chicken, it came with two options – Butter Chicken or Butter Chicken Masala. The difference between the two dishes is self explanatory. The Butter Chicken Masala is essentially Butter Chicken but with added masala. It had the same creamy thickness, the same flavors but with added spices. The dish also included several pieces of boneless chicken. The gravy was a perfect side to eat with the roti.
