desserts Marble Cake Megah Rise Mall food Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken Open Daily Pork Free Sarawak Laksa Taman Megah PJ

Lao Mao Cafe at Megah Rise, Taman Megah, PJ – Small space, small menu but yummy food (pork free)

As I was in the area, I decided to drop by Megah Rise Mall once again, to check it out. If I came across food I was in the mood for, I’d have lunch here. Otherwise, plenty of options just outside the mall.

As I was walking around Level 1, I stumbled upon Lao Mao Cafe. Unlike the Ground floor that almost fully occupied, this level is semi occupied. So, its quieter, with lesser people. Color me surprise when I saw this small eatery and it was bustling. Bustling with conversations and laughter, it was crowded too.

The eatery is relatively small in size with a decent mix of small and large tables to accomodate different group sizes. Lao Mao has an inviting, welcoming ambiance with a kopitiam feel.

Menu

Its a small menu but whatever I’ve tasted so far was delicious.

Marble Cake, RM 9

This slice of cake was delicious, especially when served warm. It tasted like a good homebaked cake that is buttery, melts in your mouth and is not overly sweet. I liked it so much that I literally gobbled it up within 5 minutes. Yum!!

Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken, RM 18

If you are in the mood for a dish that would fill you up, Nasi Lemak would do it for you. The dish includes a large piece of tender chicken thigh coated with some tasty curry. The onion sambal was similar to the one I had during my childhood days, it invoked a sense of nostalgia. This dish also includes a fried egg, fried anchovies, peanuts and shredded cucumber.

Sarawak Laksa, RM 18

I cant say much about the Sarawak Laksa here as I very rarely indulge in this particular dish. Too little to be able to give a definite answer on whether its a good or bad dish. My friend however likes this dish. We rarely see it available on the Menu of the numerous restaurants we’ve been to of late and so, when he saw this here, he immediately decided on it. According to him, this is one of the better Sarawak Laksa he has tasted in KL. The gravy was tasty and as it should be – more soupy rather than thick and milky. It had lots of ingredients – noodles, shredded chicken, prawns, taugeh and etc. Slurping on it was a delight.

My tummy was satisfyingly full by the end of my visit. I’ll be back for another visit soon. I need another taste of the marble cake and maybe indulge in another plate of Nasi Lemak. This is the kind of eatery I know my parents would enjoy too So, I’d be sure to bring them along next time.
