There used to be a restaurant in Block A, Happy Mansion, Seksyen 17, PJ named Ernie Mansion – https://thefoodbunny.com/2022/10/11/ernie-mansion-at-happy-mansion-section-17-pj-best-chicken-chop-in-the-area-%f0%9f%98%8d%f0%9f%98%8d/ . This eatery serves one of the best Hainanese Chicken Chops I’ve tasted in a long while. I can recall feeling thoroughly satisfied the last time I was there. Just as I was about to pay them another visit, sadly however, as of a few months ago, it closed down. Haiyaaaaaaaaa.
Guess what though, they popped up back again this month. Yay! Glad to know that it was not the end of ERNIE when they shut their doors at Happy Mansion. This time however, rather than a full fledge restaurant, they decided to open up a stall in Sum Sum Restaurant at Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya.

Meet the bossman himself, Mr. Ernie …

For someone who has been in the F&B industry since he was 17, he was extremely humble and friendly. Despite being a graduate of the notable culinary school, Le Cordon Bleu, there was not even an ounce of arrogance and superiority in the man. Any questions asked, he was more than willing to answer them. A likeable man indeed.
He mentioned several times that for him, food served at ERNIE’s should reflect quality over quantity. He does not believe in cutting corners and it shows. Good food is guaranteed here. Good cafe standard food at affordable price point.
Menu

For now, these are the dishes they offer. Ernie is working on adding more dishes to the Menu. With time, one can expect dishes like Fish & Chips as well as Salted Egg Prawn Spaghetti.
Sinful Aglio Olio, RM 13

This dish sure was sinful, alright. For a dish worth RM 13, this came in a large portion size. Larger than what I expected. The ingredients too were generous. Besides the spaghetti, it came with lots of minced meat, crispy pork lard and chinese sausage.
It tasted even better than some of the pasta I’ve at at cafes in KL. The cheaper price point does not hurt either. It is worth a try.
Hainanese Chicken Chop, RM 18

This was one of my favorite dishes at Ernie Mansion and I was so glad to see it still available being served here. It sure is bound to be a best seller. Upon eating it, I am happy to say that it still tasted exactly the same.
I usually keep away from eating chicken skin but here, I couldn’t resist. There is something in their batter mix that reels me in and keeps me coming back for more. I love the taste. Texturewise, it was crunchy. Biting into it, the mix of flavors between the skin and meat was a delicious combination.
I can positively eat the whole dish myself without needing any sauce whatsoever. The dish however includes tomato sauce with vegetable cubes and Ernie’s own homemade hot sauce which had a tomato base with a good dose of chili and black pepper. In addition, there also was potato wedges, coleslaw. Yet another dish worth ordering if you are in the mood for chicken chop.
Char Grilled Pork Chop, RM 18

This pork chop was brined in salt water solution for 3 days and marinated for 2 day. The effects of these processes was reflective in the pork that was served to us. The meat was tender and juicy, just how I liked it. It tasted great too, no sauces was necessary to add flavor. The pork chop was good enough to eat on its own. However, if you do need to dip the meat in something, there is the homemade sauce in addition to a white dip with a slight tangy taste. The dish also included spiced fries and coleslaw.
Homemade Hot Sauce, RM 10

If you really liked Ernie’s homemade hot sauce, you can now purchases it for RM 10. As mentioned before, it has a tomato base and a good mix of chilli and black pepper. It was a slightly thickened sauce that was flavorful, with spicyness.
All in all, it was an awesome visit to ERNIE. Food tasted as good as it used to be. All dishes we tried were tasty and worth a return. I look forward to dropping by again for another visit. Thanks for having us, Ernie π
