Char Bihun Curry Chicken Fried Rice Ice Kacang Lobak New 2023: June Open Daily Penang food in KL PJ

Pulau Tikus Market at Taman Megah, PJ – Newly opened, serving Penang food

After concluding some business in the area, we opted to have late lunch at Megah Rise Mall. The intention was to simply walk around till we came upon an eatery we’d like to have lunch at. Less than 5 minutes in, we saw Pulau Tikus Market. Ooooo, Penang food?? Yesla! I’ve always been a fan and so, it sealed the deal. Lunch was here.

The eatery is new, opened 2 weeks ago. It operates daily from 10 am – 10 pm.It is meant to operate as a ‘grab and go’ but dining in is possible too. I dont know about you guys but to me, Penang food on this side of town is best eaten served fresh, in the shop. πŸ€”πŸ€”

As we dropped by late, beyond the usual lunch hour, some dishes were not available/sold out. For instance, the Kuey Teow was not available, the Ice Kacang eventually sold out. Luckily, we arrived just in time to be the last few customers to be served it before it ran out.

Original Ice Kacang, RM 7.80

This was a yummy refreshing dessert. It’s Ice Kacang made the ol’ school way. The dish includes sweetened shaved ice, raisins, cincau, red beans, corn, sea coconut and a good sprinkle of peanuts. Certainly makes a good dessert to have on a hot day.

Char Bihun, RM 6.80 + lobak, RM 3.80 & Fried Rice Set with Curry Chicken, RM 11.80

The Char Bihun was simple and tasty. It was good enough on its own but I wanted some meat to go with it and so, I added on lobak. The combination worked. I liked it.

The Fried Rice looked good at the food display area. Visually, I thought I was going to enjoy this dish. Sadly, I did not. The rice was dry and hard πŸ˜³πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«. Maybe it dried out from being out too long?At the display area, the fried rice was kept in a large container, good enough to feed 40 – 50 people? I arrived just in time to get the last serving. By the time it reached my turn, it dried out. There was no joy biting into it. We paid for it though, so ‘kena habis makanlah’. Thank god I opted for the set which included the Curry Chicken. The gravy was yummy and the meat was tender and soft. With some gravy drizzled onto the hardened rice, it managed to soften it a bit and made it more tolerable to eat.

All in all, besides the hardened rice, the rest of the items ordered were nice. So, I suppose, it was mostly a good experience. If I am in the area, I might drop by here again to give their Char Kuey Teow a try. I’d give them some time though before I visit again, just until they get their momentum going and are not a newbie any longer.
