Minah Satay at Prima Damansara, Petaling Jaya (Muslim Operated)

We found ourselves longing for some satays, excited to explore a new spot we hadn’t tried before in Petaling Jaya. As we scoured the internet for options, we stumbled upon Minah Satay. Although this brand was new to us, it seemed to have won the hearts of its customers, boasting a good average score of 4.8/5 from over 65 reviews. Intrigued and eager to satisfy our cravings, we set off to Prima Damansara with hopeful anticipation.

From the insights gathered from customer reviews, it appears that Minah Satay was originally operating from a stall before transitioning into a shoplot. Currently located at a corner lot within a row of shops in Prima Damansara, Minah Satay now provides a well-organized seating arrangement for its customers, characterized by a simple and clean setup.

Menu

There are four types of satay served here – chicken, beef, mutton and duck satay. I cant recall the last time I’ve seen or heard anything about Satay Itik. Given its rarity, I almost forgot about its existence and so seing it served here was a pleasant surprise. I did not try it this time as I was craving for Satay Ayam and Kambing in particular but I will know where to head to next time I have a craving for duck meat.

Besides satay, this restaurant also serves Soto and ‘Goreng-goreng’ like Fried Rice and more.

Satay Ayam, RM 1.50 per stick + Satay Kambing, RM 2.50 per stick

Between the two versions of satay, I preferred the Kambing version. I found the meat to be tender and better flavored. There was also less fat and more meat included.

Unfortunately, the Chicken Satay did not leave much of an impression. It appeared to be a healthier version, as it seemed like the meat was grilled without any prior coating – which usually gives it its flavor. As a result, what was presented was essentially grilled meat with minimal seasoning. I am uncertain whether this lack of flavor is the customary preparation or if it was an accidental oversight. The texture of the meat was good, leading me to ponder how much more appealing it could have been had it consisted of a well-seasoned coating.

Soto Ayam, RM 5

A Chicken Soto priced at merely 5 ringgit presents a cost-effective option for diners. With the lower price, the absence of mee hoon, the traditional noodles typically included in soto, is understandable. Instead, the dish features a generous serving of Nasi Impit, which is soaked in the flavorful soto broth. Complemented by strips of chicken, peanuts, and fried onions, resulting in an enjoyable dish.

Would I return to Minah Satay? Unlikely. Firstly, the restaurant is situated in a location I would not deem strategically located. Secondly, although I enjoyed the Satay Kambing served here, I tend to prefer establishments that excel in both their Satay Ayam and Kambing, which unfortunately was not the case in this instance.
