If you seek an experience out of the ordinary, look no further. Rather than just enjoying a delectable banana leaf rice meal at a restaurant, picture yourself relishing it in a spacious bungalow where you can park and unwind at your convenience. La Salle Hall is a venue that serves as an event space, restaurant, and clubhouse for La Salle alumni. It draws comparisons to the University of Malaya’s UMAC, a charming clubhouse nestled in a colonial bungalow, complete with a Sri Lankan restaurant we frequently visit. While it’s designed as a clubhouse/alumni house/hall, both restaurants are open to public.
Operating since May last year, Rogues is highly rated on Google, with an average score of 4.9/5 from over 100 customers.

The establishment boasts a large land area, hence ample parking available, accommodating a minimum of 20 vehicles. The restaurant is situated within a bungalow, characterized by a classic, old-school aesthetic typical of the Petaling Jaya area. Surrounded by greenery, patrons are afforded the option to dine indoors or outdoors while appreciating the tranquil and relaxed atmosphere.

Banana Leaf Rice Set, RM 12 + Chicken Varuval, RM 8 + Fish Cutlet, RM 7

The Set includes rice, three vegetables (bayam, cabbage, cucumber), papadam, rasam, and pickle. This marks the first occasion in quite some time that I have encountered green leafy vegetables such as bayam being offered as part of banana leaf rice, which allows for refills. Typically, one finds the usual options like cucumber, long beans, taugeh, and tauhu among the selections. The vegetables were enjoyable, prompting us to request additional servings.
The curry we selected was chicken curry, characterized by its rich and thick consistency, making it an ideal accompaniment to rice. Among the two meat options ordered, I found the fish cutlet particularly enjoyable. The outer layer of the cutlet was both crunchy and flavorful, with a distinct array of spices incorporated into the dish. Its generous size sufficiently sustained me throughout most of my meal. Although the Chicken Varuval was okay, it lacked a certain ‘umph’. Additionally, it could easily be mistaken for Parathal rather than Varuval. While some may regard it as a good dish, it did not rank among the best choices available to me personally. Nevertheless, it was an overall satisfying meal.
Just based on the food alone, I’d give it a 3.9 or 4 over 5 but if together with the environment, ambiance, ease of parking and etc, the overall score will certainly be higher.
