Chai at Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya – Modern setting, tasty Indian food (pork free)

Recently, someone ‘belanja’ me Indian food at Chai. At that point, I knew nothing of this Indian restaurant but I was told, food was delicious. Ara Damansara is an area I rarely venture into but the prospect of discovering a new Indian restaurant is certainly something I anticipate with enthusiasm.

The restaurant features a contemporary setting and an inviting ambiance, making it an ideal venue for hosting friends and family during celebrations such as birthdays and other special occasions.

It was fortunate that we visited after the lunch hour, as I anticipated a crowded restaurant during peak hours.

Menu

2 Plates of rice with vegetables and meat

Plate 1: Rice with cabbage, pumpkin, bittergourd, pumpkin and chicken parathal
Plate 2: Rice with cucumber, pumpkin, fried bittergourd and chicken varuval

After noticing a selection of appetizing dishes on display, I became a glutton and ultimately acquired a plate full of vegetables and meat. My stomach was full by the end of this meal; however, I cannot express any regret for this indulgence.

The pricing structure is based on individual dishes served on a plate. For the vegetables (small serving), a charge of RM 3 per dish was applied, while for the meat (large serving), the charge was RM 10 per dish.

Food was delightful and richly flavored. Although I seldom like vegetables, those served here were excellent. The meat dish, particularly the chicken varuval, was my favorite. It was prepared in a dry gravy style, exhibiting an abundance of flavor and featuring tender pieces of meat. Yum! I’ll likely be revisiting Chai again in the near future.

Achi Ayahdorai at Sea Park, Petaling Jaya – A new Indian restaurant in the area (Pork free)

Achi Ayahdorai is a recently established Indian restaurant, located in the midst of a row of shops in Sea Park. Considering the limited options available in the area, it is good to see the addition of an Indian restaurant. Should you desire traditional South Indian signature dishes such as Banana Leaf Rice and Biryani, this restaurant is sure to satisfy your cravings.

The dining establishment is situated on the first floor, above The Ice Cream Bar. In contrast to conventional Indian restaurants, this eatery boasts a contemporary interior. Its vibrant atmosphere is brought to life by a purple color scheme and artistic decor.

Banana Leaf set and Chicken Varuval

Our lunch was good, with both the Banana Leaf Rice (BLR) and Briyani proving to be delicious. The BLR set comprised rice, curry, four different vegetables, pickle, mint chutney, kesari, and papadum. The vegetables were particularly enjoyable, with the fried cabbage and pineapple parathal standing out as personal favorites, both being a first time experience for me. The fried cabbage offered a delightful mix of crispiness, crunchiness, and flavor, while the pineapple parathal provided an enjoyable combination of sweet and spicy flavors. The cucumber with pomegranate in raita was a refreshing addition, complemented by hints of sweetness from the fruit. The BLR set alone was satisfying but I decided on additional meat to complement the meal. Hence, the Chicken Varuval was the dish of choice. It comprised six to seven pieces of tender, well-flavored meat, making it a perfect complement to the BLR.

The Chicken Briyani was presented in a traditional claypot. As the lid was lifted, a delightful aroma filled the air, stimulating our appetites. Upon mixing and trying, the rice exhibited a rich and satisfying density, rendering additional gravy unnecessary. It stood as a perfect dish in its own right. Accompanying the flavorsome rice were 6 to 7 tender, well-seasoned pieces of chicken, complemented by a soft, dense texture. Additionally, the dish featured a boiled egg, cucumber raita, and gravy.

Overall, our dining experience at this establishment was good. In the future, if we happen to be in the area and have a desire for Indian cuisine, we will drop by again.
