Cutlet Good vegetarian food in PJ Mix vegetables Nasi Lemak Open Daily Payasam Pj New Town Pumpkin Thali Set Vegetarian

Pure Saiva at PJ New Town, PJ – Bigger and better (Vegetarian)

Pure Saiva has established itself as a leading destination for vegetarian Indian cuisine, thanks to its holistic and clean eating approach. With two outlets in the city, I often visit their PJ New Town branch, which can become quite crowded during peak hours. It is noteworthy that they have now expanded to a larger space to accommodate their growing clientele.

Yes, Pure Saiva has moved. It now occupies a space just a few doors down in the same row of shops. Regulars will recognize that the previous establishment was Me’nate Steak Hub, which has closed its doors, making way for the exciting new Pure Saiva. Expect the same clean, white ambiance, now even bigger and better.

Menu

Thali Set, RM 10.80 each

For a hearty meal, the Thali Set is perfect, featuring rice, payasam, rasam, papadam, three vegetables, gravy, and more. We chose tauhu sambal, pumpkin, spinach, chickpea, and mixed vegetables, with the tauhu sambal being my favorite for its flavorful balance of slight spiciness, sweetness, and sourness—ideal to eat with rice and pumpkin. The potato cutlet was a satisfying meat substitute, packed with flavor and a great complement to the thali set.

Pandan Nasi Lemak, RM 9

I have good memories of this dish from the old outlet and truly enjoyed it. While the flavor remains delightful, the serving size has shrunk, missing fried items like tempe and chips. The sambal is still enjoyable, though not as spicy as it once was—I even requested an extra serving. When paired with rice, kacang, and crispy mushroom strips, it was quite satisfying. This dish is good, but I strongly believe they should reinstate the variety in the Nasi Lemak, just like they used to.

Aman Suria PJ food Ceylonese Chicken Kolayyal Rice Packet Chicken Thali Set New restaurant PJ 2025 June Pork Free Rice packets South Indian Vegetarian Thali Set Sri Lankan Sri Lankan food in PJ Thali Set

Aralia Ceylon and Indian Cuisine at Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya – New Sri Lankan restaurant in town (Pork free)

Aralia at Aman Suria is one of the newer establishments in Petaling Jaya, specializing in Sri Lankan and South Indian cuisine. Having opened just over a month ago, it offers a selection of notable Ceylonese dishes, including Kolial rice packets, Devilled Chicken, and Kottu.

Menu

Thali Set, RM 13 + Devilled Chicken, RM 11 + Chicken Kulial Rice, RM 13

Thali Set
Devilled Chicken

The Thali Set is a vegetarian dish comprising a serving of rice, three vegetables (long beans, fresh greens, and radish), two gravies (dhal and sothi), rasam, payasam, and papadum. I found all three vegetables enjoyable, each capable of being savored independently. The fresh greens, in particular, were my favorite, and the payasam served as an excellent dessert. However, I felt the absence of meat, which led to the order of the Devilled Chicken. I anticipated it to possess a predominantly spicy flavor, yet it presented itself as more of a ‘Sweet and Spicy Chicken,’ with a predominance of sweetness and only a hint of spice. The dish featured boneless pieces of meat coated in the sauce, accompanied by tomatoes, onions, and chilies. It was quite flavorful and complemented the rice effectively.

Chicken Kolial Rice

The Negombo Rice Packet has consistently been a favorite of mine. It is a meal I eagerly anticipate enjoying at Ceylonese restaurants, although not all establishments offer this particular dish. To me, it resembles a premixed version of rice accompanied by gravy, chicken, and vegetables. While these components are typically served separately, they are all combined in this dish. Depending on the cook, some rice packets possess a drier texture, akin to a dense fried rice.

The version presented here was moister and features a tomato base. Although I am not particularly fond of tomato base (with the exception of pizza), this rendition was rather enjoyable, especially when enhanced with spices. It also included several pieces of chicken parathal, chili, onions, and additional ingredients. While I found it to be a good dish, my preference leans towards drier rice packets; therefore, I will likely choose to forgo it next time.

I am rarely in the area; however, should I find myself in Aman Suria, I may consider revisiting Aralia. I have a fondness for Kottu Chicken and Appam, which I intend to try next.

Chapati Chicken Thali Set Indian food in Petaling Jaya Open Daily Paneer Naan Paneer Thali Set Pork Free Seksyen 8 Petaling Jaya food Thali Set

Chapati Lover at Seksyen 8, Petaling Jaya – Paneer Thali Set… yum! (pork free)

If you have been in the area lately, you’d notice the bloom in Indian restaurants in the area, from Uncle Gundu to the newest outlet of India Gate. Little did I know that there was another Indian eatery around the corner, discovered while I was driving around the block looking for a parking spot.

Chapati Lover has been in operation for a year and a half, and if you are seeking a quiet and understated Indian restaurant in the area, this may be the establishment for you. The food is decent, and depending on the dish chosen, you may discover items that exceed your expectations.

The ambiance of the restaurant was quite inviting. The interior comprised of mismatched colors, furnishings, lighting, and decorations, which together created a relaxed atmosphere.

Menu

Chicken Thali Set, RM 13.90 + Paneer Thali Set, RM 13.90

Chicken Thali Set
Paneer Thali Set

The thali sets offered at this establishment are reasonably priced. The Chicken Thali Set comprises a serving of raita, cucumber salad, dhal gravy, butter chicken, and two pieces of roti. Customers have the option to choose between rice or roti; I opted for the healthier choice of chapati. The food was good, featuring the uncomplicated flavors I sought.

My preferred selection, however, was the Paneer Thali Set. This dish comprised eight pieces of naan, adorned with paneer, an array of spices, curry leaves, spring onions, and sesame seeds. In addition to the naan, the Thali Set also featured a serving of spiced onions, chickpeas in gravy, and raita. The naan, characterized by its soft and dense texture, was a pleasure to savor. The delectable topping was undeniably enjoyable, transforming the paneer naan from merely ordinary to remarkably delightful.

Overall, the culinary experience was okay, and I particularly liked the Paneer naan that was included in the Paneer Thali Set. The Chicken Thali Set is a typical dish that I frequently encounter at Punjabi restaurants. Would I return to Chapati Lovers? For Indian cuisine in the vicinity, my preference leans towards Uncle Gundu – Uncle Gundu PJ at Pjs 8, PJ – A recent favorite (pork free), which is situated only a few minutes away. Should Uncle Gundu be at full capacity on the day of my visit, I would contemplate a visit to Chapati Lovers, particularly if I seek a quiet ambiance.

Chicken Tikka Chicken Tikka Burger Indian food in TTDI Indian fusion food Set Lunch Thali Set TTDI

DILLI 6 at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, KL – Indian fusion delights (Pork free)

Nestled within a row of shops on Persiaran Zaaba in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI), Dilli 6, which has been operational for six months, is located on the first floor, directly above Der Backmeister. This restaurant specializes in Indian Fusion cuisine.

The restaurant features a spacious layout, characterized by a white-themed interior complemented by elegant Indian decor items that adorn the walls. This elevates a simple setup into an aesthetically pleasing space. The establishment comprises two seating areas: an air-conditioned indoor section and an outdoor setup.

Menu

What piqued my interest was the Lunch Set, which comprised a selection of various dishes presented on a single plate. Upon viewing photographs of this offering on Google Reviews, I found it to be quite appealing.

Chicken Set Meal, RM 28

This Lunch Set is more expensive than usual. However, it does feature a greater number of items on the plate compared to usual lunch sets. I remain uncertain regarding the price point.

The Set Lunch comprises a serving of long grain rice, two chapatis, a portion of mixed vegetables, chicken curry, chicken tikka, papadam, sweet chutney, and Gulab Jamun. In contrast to the usual lunch sets, this offering features two distinct types of chicken: a dry variant and a wet version. For those seeking a filling meal, this Set Lunch is highly recommended. The food was delicious and wholesomr. Additionally, the Set Lunch includes a refreshing lemonade.

Chicken Tikka Burger with Fried, RM 25

This was, in fact, an Indian burger. The patty featured a generous serving of flavorful chicken tikka. Complemented by a touch of their homemade green mint sauce and green chili sauce, this burger proved to be a gratifying dish. It was accompanied by a side of fries, which were crispy and a pleasure to consume.

All in all, it was a relatively good visit to Dilli 6. Other than the fact that my food took a good 20 minutes to arrive despite being the only customers, the yummy food made up for it. Price point is on the higher side. A revisit will likely be a once in a blue moon affair.

Good Indian food in PJ Indian North Indian Thali Set with Butter Chicken Open Daily PJ New Town food Pork Free South Indian Vegetarian Thali Set Thali Set Vegetarian friendly

Bayleaf Kitchen Restaurant at PJ New Town – Yum!

The impromptu visit to the Indian restaurant was unplanned. We found ourselves in the vicinity, seeking a suitable place for lunch. With the abundance of dining options in PJ New Town, we were presented with a plethora of choices. Our final destination, however, was primarily determined by the availability of parking. After circling the block twice, we eventually spotted an empty parking space, just a few doors down from Bayleaf.

I found the ambiance at Bayleaf quite appealing. It exudes a similar atmosphere to India Gate, albeit in a more understated and less extravagant manner. The establishment offers a comfortable and clean setting, making it an ideal choice for social gatherings with friends and family.

Menu

** Bayleaf offers an array of dishes and there were a few that caught my eye. As invidited during lunc hour, the Thali Set appealed most to me. One point to note is thag unlike other restaurants, the Thali Set here comes in both veg and non veg options in addition to 2 versions : North and South Indian.

North Indian Thali Set with Butter Chicken, RM 21.90

If you are in search of a meal that offers a comprehensive and satisfying experience, the following dish may be the ideal choice. It is designed to provide a balanced assortment of flavors and nutrients, ensuring that you remain satiated until the evening. This meal consists of rice accompanied by nine components: three vegetable dishes, two gravies, acar, mooru, rasam, and kesari. Additionally, it includes two chapatis, papadam, and a serving of butter chicken.

I was thoroughly satisfied with the thali set. The flavors of all the items on the plate were delightful. The Butter Chicken portion comprised three medium-sized boneless chicken pieces, which was ample for the entire meal. Its gravy was ideal for dipping the two rotis and consuming. The assortment of vegetables was also commendable, featuring a serving of mashed potatoes, peria, and fried bananas. I have no complaints about this dish. Concluding the meal with some soft, gooey, buttery kesari was truly delightful.

South Indian Thali Set (Vegetarian), RM 13.50

The South Indian Thali Set was served on a banana leaf and included most of the items also found in the North Indian Thali Set. The dish included rice with 9 sides (3 vege, 2 gravies, acar, rasam, mooru and payasam) with papadam and fried chili.

My friend, who observed a vegetarian diet for religious reasons, expressed a willingness to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle for one day per week, provided that the meals offered are as delightful as the ones here. Food was satifying indeed and tasted delicious.

Vegetarian Chicken Varuval, RM 15.50

We ordered this dish to complement the vegetarian thali set, and it exceeded our expectations. It encompasses the essence of a chicken varuval in both flavor and appearance. The only distinction lies in the ‘meat’ used; instead of actual chicken, soy was used, resulting in a less chewy and more tender texture. Rest assured, this version did not compromise the overall taste and gratification derived from the dish. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Our visit to Bayleaf was delightful and fulfilling. I eagerly anticipate another visit to this establishment in the near future.

Briyani Chicken Briyani Good Indian food in Bangsar Indian Karaikudi Chicken Briyani Muslim Friendly Thali Set Veranda Chicken Thali

Veranda at Telawi, Bangsar – Aesthetically pleasing eatery serving yummy Indian food (Muslim friendly)

Veranda – South on a Platter stands as one of the most recent establishments in the F&B landscape of Bangsar. Situated along the renowned Telawi stretch, this dining establishment specializes in Indian cuisine. True to its name, the eatery places its primary emphasis on South Indian cuisine, encompassing culinary influences from Andhra to Kerala.

The restaurant has been designed to resemble Indian homes. The windows, the dividers, the ceiling, tile work, color scheme, and decorations harmonize effectively, creating a cohesive setting that exudes a feeling of tranquility and pleasantness. Undoubtedly, this eatery is one I would deem aesthetically appealing.

Menu

Karaikudi Chicken Briyani, RM 22 + The Veranda Thali (Chicken) RM 23

Karaikudi Chicken Briyani
Veranda Chicken Thali

The Karaikudi Chicken Biryani was delectable and served in an appropriate portion size for an individual. In contrast to other establishments where the biryani serving could suffice for two, here it is tailored for one person. The ratio between rice and meat was equal, with four medium-sized, boneless chicken pieces, an egg, and flavorful, tender rice. It was accompanied by a side of curry and raita. The dish was thoroughly enjoyable and possessed a delightful flavor.

The Veranda Chicken Thali is perfect for someone who likes a little bit of everything. It offers a portion of eight different components, encompassing three vegetable dishes, two gravies, one meat entrée, yellow rice, and the dessert payasam, complemented by a serving of white rice and crackers. Despite its unassuming appearance, this dish is guaranteed to satiate and delight with its diverse medley of flavors.

Yatra at Ativo Plaza, Bandar Sri Damansara – Tasty Indian food (Pork free)

Guess where we headed to this time in search for yummy indian food? Yatra yawwwwwww. Having been around for about 2,3 months or so, this eatery has steadily been garnering positive reviews.  Naturally, it got me all excited and so – here I am.

20171222_09181020171222_09172320171222_09173820171222_082000

I kindda dig their interior. If you guys have been to Anneh in Damansara Uptown, you would know what I mean. Both these eateries have a modern, comtemporary take that just exudes cosiness and a welcoming feel. I like it very much. Yatra have both indoor and outdoor seating and everything is well spaced out. Service was fast, good and efficient.

Thali Set with Chicken Sambal, 20 ringgit

20171219_12192420171219_122024

This is how their Thali set looks like and for 20 ringgit – I think it really is worth it. The set come with an option of 3 type of rice – white, parboiled and briyani, of which I opted for the latter, briyani. The rice itself was delicious, soft and moist, accompanied with cashew nuts and raisins. Then, you’d get 6 side dishes – 3 vegetables (spinach, potatoes, bittergourd), 2 gravies (sambar, sothi)  and 1 portion of onion with yogurt. That is not all. Also on the plate is a cup of rasam and payasam yawwwww! + papadam.  Okay, and then of a separate bowl is the chicken sambal with 1 huge, meaty chicken drumstick and green peas for garnish. It literally was like a mini food heaven – you’d get everything from starter, to main meal, to side dish and dessert. It tasted yummy. I would not change a thing except maybe for free flow of payasam? lol.

Oooo and did I mention, after you placed your order and before the thali set arrived – they give you a plate of omapodi? Like for reals yawwww. Crunchy n spicy – me like. I gobbled it all up before my brain managed to stop me long enough to take a pic, so forgive me for the lack of pictures.

Would I head here again?

I totally would. Loved the food and the ambiance. Service was good and efficient.
